Ok so i have been studying what lies in the area immediately in the vicinity of where the upcoming DLC will begin and I have come to this conclusion. Could our Courier have cheated Death more than once? Here is what i think Ulysses' tie to the Courier is. Our courier might have been an NCR citizen and had a family could be wife and child or mother and father depending on your couriers age still not sure but my primary guess is wife and child. Ulysses comes along as a Legion spy and you find him out. He then attempts to kill both you and your wife and child and shoots your or burns your home down causing their untimely deaths. But he leaves before making sure you are gone. Filled with grief, the courier who might not have been so then decides to take up the mantel of a courier which Ulysses might have been using as a cover for his true loyalties in order to track him down. When Ulysses see's your name on that list in Primm while following Caesars order's to intercept said package he is immediately drawn to the name and asks if its for real. When Nash answers yes, knowing that the job is fixed and that it will likely lead to any other courier's death he tells him to give the job to courier six expecting Benny and his goons to kill the courier. His plans failed again, Ulysses now has to finish what he started and wishes to explain why he has to kill you.

Maybe uleysses and the Courier are both Stoners and both have to take a package somewhere but have to travel on the same road together which makes the road lonesome and unnerving.

Well, for one, it is more likely that Ulysses wronged you in some way than if he wronged us. He said he "knows what it is like to track down a person who has had such an impact on his life". And for another, the Courier being a NCR citizen with a wife and child doesn't suit some playstyles. Disregarding that it ties our courier to a definitive background, it would even contradict with some dialogue options in game, like implying that you impregnated a woman in Montana and then being relieved that you didn't just find your son.

Also, for all we know, Ulysses won't even want to kill us. The battle at the Divide sounds like tons more than just 2 couriers fighting, it could easily be a significant battle that you either collaborate with Ulysses with or go against him.

kinda why I said wild theory. But again could be his wife/husband and son/daughter or mother and father. Could be best friend and girl friend or sister and bro. I would really prefer they hadnt done Ulysses like this however cuz as everyone has said it does ruin everyones role plays a bit.

The battle at the Divide does sound like some kind of show down between the two Couriers, but what rubs me the wrong way is that they are fighting under two different flags.. Atleast that's what I've picked up from all the info I've been reading up on.

The battle is said to take place at the Divide, "beneath the torn skies and the old world flag", between the two couriers "each carrying a message for the other".

And if you look at this video regarding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZmF2MI605E at 5:28 you can see Ulysses coat with three different emblems on them, representing three different factions as the NCR, Caesar's Legion & the Mojave Express.

What I don't understand about Ulysses is he a friend or foe?

I mean Ulysses is known to have some sort of a relationship with the Courier, but the nature of that relationship is still unknown..

Maybe depending who you sided with depends on that, but idk how the game will detect that :shrug:

But considering Joshua Graham mentioned Ulysses in the Honest Hearts DLC.. and claims he may work for Caesar.

It would all be very strange if he was either your friend or foe depending on what faction you had sided with.. but I guess only time will tell!

Interesting, my personal theory on Ulysses is that he is two of the same coin. Whatever decisions you make he'll make the opposite. You join NCR, he'll join Legion, and vice versa. We'll find out in the next two DLC's.

I'm guessing that making it far enough with the NCR/Legion to make the other's main quest fail will trigger Ulysses to wear the faction opposite of what you chose. Being with Mr. House, Yes man or not being far enough with any of them will just trigger the Old World Flag.
