Owned bed in Breezehome

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:51 am

I recently bought my first house, Breezehome in Whiterun. Got some furnishings and overall pretty pleased with the place, especially the storage!

However, there is a small second bedroom with an owned bed. Any ideas who's bed that is so I can confront the freeloader and give them the boot?

Just to be thorough, I did purchase the bedroom suite so my bed doesn't say owned. This little bedroll was there from the day I bought it when I did my "home inspection"! LOL In other words, it came with the place.

That's yer housecarl, Lydia's bed.

Become Thane then you are given a housecarl. You have to do more quests to be made Thane.

That's a bummer, my Lydia died early on getting to High Hrothgar, a troll took her out while I was trying to get around it. I might add that it took me a number of tries to circumvent that beast and I was at much too low a level to fight it at the time. Sadly, as many times as I tried to lead us around it, she went after it. Damn thing was blocking the path!

So thanks all, now I know.

Unless you delivered the finishing blow, Lydia may still be on that mountain lol.

She looked pretty dead last time I saw her. If, by some miracle, she's still alive and hanging out there, can she fast travel with me to Whiterun?

Ah.

On my 1st playthrough a pilgrim took one for the team and on my 2nd that traveling bard took one for the team. I just ran by as they tried to fight it.

Next playthrough when you get near the the top of the wooden steps just as you see the troll go to your left and go around the troll behind the rocks there. You can even go up to the statue there to read the inscription if you're careful. That way you do not have to fight him.

Correction, unless ANYONE delivers the finishing blow. I've had trolls hit Lydia when she's down even though they aren't supposerd to.

Lydia never sleeps in that bed anyway so you aren't missing anything. I even decorated her room with a Dibella statue but she didn't take the hint.

Trolls do some kind of triple swipe though, right? If so, if she gets downed on the 1st or 2nd the 3rd one will kill her.

Ooooo, I have extras so maybe I'll put one in her room, too. :P Maybe I'll even put some candlestick[holders] and skulls in there for more ambiance...perhaps a set of Torture Tools as well and see if that has any effect.

That brings up the question of whether companions need to sleep to regain stamina as you do. I've pointed a companion to their bed, or my bed and said sleep here; they lie on the bed, but as soon as I back off on my controller (O on PS3), they immediately get up again. Any need for them to sleep?

I do see that I can have them activate a shrine; I assume that restores stamina for them and gets rid of any disease they may have, but wasn't sure if there was any need to do that too.

We have 'standing regen' in this game so sleep would do nothing for an NPC.

Yeah, if Lydia is dead, the troll didn't take her out, you must have. :ermm:

There can be times when the PC cannot be located by NPCs, (stealth, etc), so hostile NPCs stay near the downed follower instead of turning their attention to the PC, and may kill the follower with AoEs or arrows. If the follower gets hit with a DoT they can die too. In the case of a Frost Troll it's possible that a power attack can kill a follower, like buckom said. Just trying to lessen the guilt.

Kinda weird that Lydia can own a bed when she's dead... Heard any bumps in the night?

Yes...the Pillow Case of Shadow...of course.

I'll have to duplicate one and enchant it to entice her further. :P

Hmmm... Useful enchantment combinations might include disarm + dismay or maybe calm + resist disease.

I was thinking Waterbreathing and something else, but with Watherbreathing on there if they test her to see if she's a witch and doesn't drown they'll think she's a witch. Then I'll have to give her Resist Fire boots and Ring and then that just starts a whole snowball thing. :P

Lydia never sleeps in that bed anyway so you aren't missing anything. I even decorated her room with a Dibella statue but she didn't take the hint.

Just give her a chair of her own. I moved the one in the west corner of the loft, next to the cupboard, into her room and placed it next to the nightstand. She promptly sat down and stayed there. I can even close the door on her.

The other problem with the housecarl beds is that the priority of the guard part of the sandbox program is higher than sleep, so they never have the opportunity to use them. In any event, Lydia wouldn't be able to use her bed as-is, since it's the wrong model. The entry is on the wrong side. Or it could be turned 180°.

Owned-bed trivia: Did you know that the bed upstairs at Katla's Farm (house) near Solitude is owned by Madesi, the Argonian jeweler of Riften?

By give her a chair, you mean via the CK? And the rest of your post blew my [censored] mind.

The chair is already there, in the corner under the roof. IIRC, you can disable it then re-enable it and then it can be moved using the setpos command. Note, however, that the entry point stays behind until you leave the cell and return. Then it should be correct. It's a poor fix, but it works, and it keeps Lydia happy. Alternatively, you could stand on the spot where you want to place a chair and use the console to place one there using the placeatme command followed by the code for the chair type. Then fine tune the location using setpos. I've thought about using the CK to create an alternative Breezehome, but I never have time for it (still working on my lake cabin).

It's the wrong model, but if you just swap models you still need to rotate it 180o! And I found she still spends all night watching me sleep. Very creepy...
