With a high enough stealth and speech I think this is possible with NPCs, although at times it will certainly be difficult; a high speed will help.

Certain critters are going to pose considerable trouble evn with a stealth of 100 so speed will become even more important. Even with an agility of 10 and Travel Light I think some critters can outrun you though and this may make a pacifist approach too difficult to be feasible.

I think only Cazadores can outrun a 10 AG w/ Travel Light, But I could be wrong about that.

I saw pacifist playthrough as just not killing people who don't try and kill you.

Yeah, are you trying to be completely pacifist as in KILL NO ONE EVER or something a bit looser? I definitely think you could do much of the game as pacifist, but I'm not entirely sure about all of it ... even just the main storyline. Could be interesting to try tho.

Every playthrough I'm beset by powder gangers in goodsprings...not part of the quest, but they seem to randomly encounter you. There was no choice in those situations but to fight back.

Well for the Pacifist playthrough I'm going to run, It will be Charisma 7, LK 7, AG 10..

Speech, Medicine, And survival will be tagged..

And I'll let companions kill anything.

So as long as it is them, Not me.

If you are OK with companions killing things, I'd suggest going CHA 9 (10 with implant) and using Ferocious Loyalty as much as possible. With enough stimpacks, a high CHA FL buffed companion can kill just about anything for you. Maybe consider tagging Repair, and nabbing E-DE early too.

I'm going to try and stay neutral with everyone for as long as I can, And use speech for everything pretty much.

EDIT: If I can't use speech for a conversation and am forced into combat, I'll let ED-E / Cass shoot everything up.

I have not done all the quests, however from what I have seen, quest wise, you can do this game as a pacifist assuming you have good enough skills in certain areas. Speech and Barter can get you out of most altercations. In other cases, there is a choice to make that can assist the pacifist cause.

What makes it difficult is the Wilderness and all the critters that want to play with you. Fortunately, in most places, being on the road is enough to avoid most of the wasteland fauna, it is only when you venture off that it gets more difficult to avoid killing something.

Hmmm.
It's an interesting idea. Your build seems okay. My question is what to do about raiders like Vipers and Fiends and Powder Gangers? I mean, are you just going to hall butt through their territories? Also, I'm guessing you're going to avoid quests that specifically ask you to kill such as Three Card Bounty? I'm also guessing some places will have to be avoided as well. Man, I you'll need a master list of stealth-boy locations to get through some of the Vaults! :ninja:
LOL!

Doh!
Of course! I totally didn't think about that since I never use them. Errr, not that I'm bloodthirsty or anything.
Well, maybe a little. :whistling:

There are some quests that you will have to avoid to play as a Pacifist. However the Main and most side quests have a peaceful alternative if you look for it.

As for certain enemies, yes, you will have to either avoid certain areas, or, get help. Like calling in the NCR troops.

There's a guy on Youtube who uploaded a speed run which was also a pacifist playthrough. I didn't watch all 11 parts, but from what the description said and what I saw, it was a MQ only speed run which plays into a pacifist play style as well since combat takes time. I think the time was 2 hours 40 minutes and not a single kill to complete the MQ He just ran away from anything that started chasing him, and he jumped almost constantly which leads me to assume either he thought that maybe the act of jumping or the animation of the jump itself makes you move faster than running, not sure why he did it.

Maybe he was trying to avoid getting shot? :P

I don't get it. I would consider a pacifist playthrough to involve not being an aggressor and trying to talk his way out of violence, but not even the biggest tree hugger would not defend themself from being killed by also using lethal force. There's moments when bean bags won't be an option.

Hah – if "pacifist" just means "don't kill anyone who doesn't attack you first," then just about ALL my characters are "pacifists."

I tried playing Fallout 3 without killing other humans who'd show up on my Pip Boy, and found it to be extremely challenging at low levels because the AI is so bullheaded. Outside the Super Duper Mart, I was waylaid by assassins, and kept shooting the guns out of their hands and crippling their legs as I tried to escape. They would just keep finding more guns and coming after me again. You're crippled, dude! Let it go! Eventually I got away by shooting a car and running past it, so technically the explosion from the car killed them ... not me. At least according to my Pip Boy. (I quit after trying to free a slave counted as a "kill" because I was unsuccessful in disarming his collar ... *pop*)

Anyway, you can get through the main quest in both FO3 and FNV without killing anyone as long as you're willing to run away a lot (and occasionally use Boxing Gloves, Super Slam, Bean Bag Rounds, Cattle Prod, etc.).

In Oblivion and Morrowind, it seems to make you go faster if you Jump while running across the land, in the Fallout Games it does not seem to help. Not sure why he is jumping in that video.

Sounds interesting... I'd forgotten about the beanbag rounds, too. I made several runs across the DC wastes, including a long subway run.

as for Pacifism, there are a bunch of sub-categories... IMO, if you bring a companion along to kill people/critters, you are still responsible for the death of the person/critter: you essentially brought and pre-aimed the weapon, etc. Still fun, mind you-- I love watching Boone and Veronica mow 'em down-- but not exactly non-violent.

Then there's the "only get out the 10mm smg w/ the long magazine when you're absolutely backed into a corner" wasteland survival style... also fun, and you get to use your best Liam Neeson voice when you kill them: "I didn't want to have to do this..." I've still done a bit of BigHorner hunting even though I have Animal Friend. I eat every part of it or drop steaks off in front of poor wastelander encampments.

Then there's the unarmed "Oh NO, oh great f----ng blimey!! RUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUN!!" Amnesia style, also highly entertaining. :ahhh: The geckos are pretty quick, even with Travel Light I don't think you can straight-line outrun them.

[EDIT] Hey! my Avatar pic disappeared! Oh well, it was time for a new one anyway.

Well I decided to just use speech entirely, And have no companions this playthrough.

It'll be a pain.

Also, if I remember, in Oblivion jumping increased your acrobatic skill.
Maybe the guy's just got a "jumping habit" from that or something. :P
