A partial solution from skill grinders (PC only)

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 5:58 pm

How many of us have found ourselves thinking that 53 is such an ugly number. Would it be so bad to just grind another 7 skills levels out to get to that next tasty perk? I mean we did just completed two dungeons, killed a dragon and all. Getting to 60 Conjuration would be the perfect to time end this session and started on your new workout routine followed by a nice wholesome dinner.

Four hours later...

You had added the Twins souls perk three hours ago. Your hands are tired. But an evil thing has taken over your hands and is now casting muffle on their own. Your workout has been forgotten and that sinful double-cheese pizza you managed to order in your lucid moments is weighing heavily on your soul.

Six hours later ...

It's gone. Your character, the one you have been working on these past weeks is gone. No, you didn't delete him, in fact you had just power leveled him to 81 level and took him to every dragon wall and lol-curb-stomp all those annoying ancient dragons. Then you realized there is nothing left. Your skills will never get any better, there is no item you can find that can match your own enchanted ones. Even your truest friend M'aiq repeated his lines when you meet him a while ago.

Let me introduce you to the Elys uncapper mod. This mod lets you set the skill limit and experience multiplier. For example, you can set each skill to be limited at 400 and experience multiplier to 0.5. That means you need twice the effort to reach 100 skill, and you can continue to advance pass 100.

All formulas work pass 100 skills so a destruction master continues to reduce magicka cost at higher skill levels (25% per 100 skill level) while a warrior continues to grow in damage.

How does it help you?

All but the most OCD players will actually grind to the new maximum skill level because it is now stupidly hard and there are no new perks to entice you. But you can still gain a small amount of power with each skill up.

The skill limit and experience multiplier can be set for different skills, meaning "broken" skills can be adjusted to be very hard to reach 100 and never beyond that. While underpowered skills can be boosted by making them easier to level and have a higher skill limit.

Your warrior doesn't have to hang up his sword at 100 skill and start casting magic in order to level up. He can continue his warrior's path all the way until 400 (or more). You would have exhausted all game content long before that.

Why are people talking about grinding in this game!

This isn't a role-playing game you grind! This isn't even a real role-playing game.

The true definition of grinding is found in games like Lotro. Not this.

This is a console role-player. 1/16 the size of the big show. When people talk about grinding in this game, it's hilarious. It makes no sense.

It's like telling Clyde Barrow you did 6 months hard time for your misdemeanor.

What a person does in his own single player game affects only himself. His reasons are his own and you should respect their life choices.

What is more important is that there are mods even for this poor sufferers to let them enjoy their game and not come to forum to complain about game balance.

What is even more important is that there are mods that allows the non-grinding 150+ hour player to continue to leveling in his chosen profession after hitting 100 skills without having to switch playstyles in order to advance.

Thus the reason for this post.

It's a bit like your character has realized they've nothing left to live for. I restart at the point I'm swimming in gold and don't want to open chests in dungeons anymore.

/edit I would probably use this if I could use a mod that made loot scarce.
