Parts Of The Map Locked Depending On Faction Choice?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:21 am

In the new ign preview posted today they mentioned that they went as far south as they could. There was a mojave ncr outpost and the ncr rangers wanted the players help dealing with the powder gangers. The previewer said that "perhaps finishing this quest would unlock the gate to the remainder of the south land." So what if your not joining the ncr or doing any of their missions? Will the gate remain locked and we just won't be able to access the rest of the southern part of the map? I sure hope not...I wonder if other areas of the map will be blocked off as well depending on who your siding with?

I would imagine that unless you were involved with a faction, certain areas within their sphere of influence would be closed to outsiders.

Simple... Kill them. If you are enemies of the NCR I'm sure you will have no problem with this.

So full exploration will be somewhat gimped then...

I kind of want to think that the whole southern area wouldn't be blocked. I feel this might have been bad journalism or super speculation. Why limit us and take away from the world. Doesn't seem productive.

 Yea, they would really lock out whole areas of the map for certain factions when you don't even need to join one to finish the game.

I wouldn't say gimped. If this situation is the case, and faction allignment will effect exploration, I would think of it more as "You are with Caesars Legion, therefore, you are unwelcome in NCR territory. They will follow an order to kill on sight." Things like that. Or maybe locations that are only accessible during quests associated with that particular faction.
It makes sense, but I don't know if that's the case. We're just speculating.

The journalist only got a first look at the gate situation. I'm sure there will be a way to open it. Speech, gunshots, or quest. Maybe we can report it to the CL and they will help us raid the outpost. There will be a way in.

It doesn't make sense to block off the map depending on faction choice when supposedly we can play through the entire game solo...

Dude you dont understand this is fallout. There are options. I GUARENTEE you will get in. Unless the devs want to start a [censored]storm about that part of the map. Also, it does make sence for the NCR to block of their territory to their enemies.

That's just me theorizing. I would be irked if I couldn't wander around where I cared. I'm just saying that logically, if we were not part of a certain faction, or a part of an enemy faction, there would be certain places we would not be privvy too, not without the threat of violence and so forth.

I think having large areas of the map blocked off would add some interesting progression to the exploration, and a sense of achievement when you gain access. Especially if they some thought into alternate ways in - like risking dying of thirst trying to find some breach in the wall, or having to navigate some booby traps or something. But yeah, a simple "do this or you won't ever get in" would be lame.

I doubt the NCR completely barricade the entire south part of the map. The previewer probably just found a large fort, and didn't have time to find a way around.

I personely can't wait to see how it plays out for those who aren't in the NCR (that is if they don't shoot on sight).

There's probably a way to get trough if your not ncr like a quest for the cl where you storm the gates or something like that.

If it is locked and what was being talked about is a fort I would expect to find a key on the body to get in. That kind of upset me when I mr sandman shop owners on rivet city they didnt have keys to their safes other.

But I am sure though that even if an area is locked there should be an alternative way to get through without having to side with them.

I'm sure killing the NCR guards and taking their key won't be a problem for anyone associated with Caesar's Legion, chances are they'd just shoot you on sight anyway after teaming up with the romans.

Maybe not completely blocking off the area from someone just because they chose a certain faction, Since I'm choosing NCR it'd probably just be a lot more dangerous for me to go into those areas that are controlled by Caesar's Legion, perhaps they could have roving search parties, elite troops put on alert, things of that nature which would allow you to still explore anywhere & everywhere but you'd be doing so at your own risk. :tops:

I think what the author was saying is that they might have to clear the blocked roads before they can continue South. There's no way to really keep a character out of an area in the game that others can enter. The people there may be hostile, but you should still be able to run in and kill them all.

I say, that if you join the best faction in the game you should get certain perks, such as access to the south area. In this game, the best faction is the NCR. So, JOIN TODAY, and see all of New Vegas

On a serious note, I agree with babybottom: I doubt playing the demo version will give you full access to the game.

I don't mind at all if joining or not joining certain factions will "practically" close off areas. Meaning, the NCR wouldn't let you through if you weren't a member. But, I hope the game doesn't "plot lock" too many doors and areas. So that if you really want to challenge NCR and try and kill your way through (even if there's a 99% chance you get killed), the game will hopefully allow you to do that.
And of course, other ways as well, like sneaking or whatever.

So yeah, what I'm hoping for is that there won't be a gigantic "hand of the developers" saying that you can't go this way being put in your face too much .
