Patch worth It?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 3:48 am

I'm holding off on the update until I get word that the patch is worth it or at least doesn't make the game worse. I'm also very far into the game.

My main problems are having to use the task manager priority menu to make the game playable.
Having to not hold down movement or firing keys too long otherwise the character continues to uncontrollably perform that action and a horrible beeping sound occurs.
Crashes/freezes when fast traveling to certain areas and just in general
Numerous quest bugs some of which prevent quest completion altogether.

At least the game still plays though so I don't want to take the chance that my old saves won't work or the game will become unplayable.

How do you make a response like that towards his post like he was a whiney nuisance?

You have very incompetent comprehension skills.

OP- All I can contribute to this is that it shouldn't mess with your saves. I installed the patch and any crashing/ freezing problems I've had since have not been relevant to the patch. I play with mods so my game is generally unstable anyway, but I did remove the most problematic ones after the patch, and I only had a few crashes, one of which was a driver issue and nothing to do with the game. If you use NVSE you'll need to go to silverlock.org to download the latest version
As for quest fixes, the patch was supposed to fix some quests but since DL I've actually had more problems with the quests than before. Three have so far been problematic, but I can't remember the name. One was "you'll know when it happens" in which I was completely unable to finish the quest until I'd run through it about 5 times. Also get a weird strobe effect in Hidden Valley but someone mentioned having this pre-patch also.
The beeping sound you mentioned sounds weird. What kind of beep? I had a problem with my old laptop but it would freeze, yell "BOOP" at me and shut down. So that one might just be an issue with whatever machine you're using.

I hope this was at least slightly helpful :/

i don't know if it will make things any worse than it already is, but it certainly didn't fix the bugs that made me give up on this game in october, and then november after that 'patch', and now in december. i'm pretty sure its just a marketing ploy to try and trick people into thinking its a working game for the christmas season, but if it fixes one persons problems it might be worth making a restore point or some sort of back up of you whole game file and see what happens. didn't fix a bloody thing for me though, and i dont use mods and keep my drivers up to date.

PC patch is worth it and then some.

You also have another problem that the patch won't solve, but you can very quickly if you are on Win XP.

...steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\

1: Right click FalloutNV.exe
2: Compatibility Tab
3: check "Run in compatibility mode for"
4: Select "Windows 98 / Windows ME"
5: Apply

That should solve the sound going into stupid mode and make fiddling with the task manager unnecessary. Why this needs to be done on some XP configurations (like mine) I have no idea.
