5 Patches Later... Why Am I Still Falling To My Doom?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:35 am

Why is it after saving my THU'UM defaults to the Sprint?

So even if I've set it to something different, after a save it defaults to the Sprint?

This is most irritating when on, or near a ledge as it propels you into space and then you watch your character die.

Is this still happening for other people?

Oh it's also worth mentioning that apart from this hindrance the latest patch is awesome.

Thanks Bethesda!

Here's a tip: Don't stand near a cliff before saving

You've not quite grasped the issue.

It's after you've saved the game seems to default you to the Sprint Shout.

So you'll save manually like anyone should at regular intervals and as a result your Shout is defaulted back to the Sprint without you quite realising it.

So not saving by a cliff isn't really going to help.

I got it. I was just trying to be funny since, in my head, I got a visual of you saving every time you were on a cliff and then after saving being shouted off the top of it! Sorry, it's funnier in my head, trust me. I don't mean to make light of the problem, I just had a funny visual

I actually thought this was what the topic was going to be about to be honest. I'm kind of disappointed it wasn't now. XD

Never happened, if it did I imagine I'd learn from it and not do it again.

Well, I mean you know well what happens after you save so you should just switch your shout back to what you want it to be after you save, right?

You are the first person I've seen with this problem. Are you on pc or console?

I'm playing on the XBox 360 with the latest patch but this has been happening since I aquired the shout which would have been by the 2nd patch.

It's not hugely gamebreaking, but when you manually save sometimes the game defaults your Shout to "SPRINT".

This is only really as inconvenient as where you happen to be when you next use the Shout.

I am sure other people have been affected by this.

Ages ago there was a thread "Ridiculous Deaths In Skyrim" or something along those lines and there were other people who'd accidentally Shouted themselves off a cliff with the Sprint. I'm sure some of those guys were facing an issue similar to my own.

Since the latest patch I'm playing more so I shall try to remember to take a log of how often this is happening.

EDIT - Also I suppose I am more aware this is happening because I often use "Become Ethereal" to speed up the process of getting down a mountainside, since when you 'become ethereal' you can't fall to your death.

So I keep my Shout as "Become Ethereal" by default so when instead of 'becoming ethereal' your character sprints 15 feet into mid air... and then faills to their death and you've got to reload the last save... it stands out in your head more.

Well had a chance to play some more and as soon as I loaded my game I tested it out.

Though I'd saved with "Become Ethereal" equipped I hit the RB button and my character did the Sprint Shout.

Swapped them back and it was alright tonight but it's definately an issue.

It's a pain in the butt, but you'll just have to be aware at all times what your shout is set to. I have this problem but it's not because the game resets it to some default, it's just that I forget that I last used the whirlwind sprint shout and now I want to use the Fus Ro Dah but I press the button and I get that much closer to my enemies and now I can't shout for a short while. So, like me, you just have to become more aware that your shout may not be set to what you think it is. Lame, I know, but that's the way she goes.

So as soon as you load your game change your shout back. Problem solved.

That's what I do now but as mentioned above sometimes it auto-switches when you've saved manually.

Sure most of the time I'll remember to check it but when you're into playing and enjoying the game sometimes you're just immersed and don't really think of this until you're attacked and the right button leads to the wrong action.
