People Having Issues With Crashing After Patch : V

I dl'd the new patch. Couldn't even get Skyrim to start. I noticed that, without my knowledge, the High res texture packs were downloaded. Not okay with me Bethesda.... Shame Shame on you! Well, Skyrim detects my graphics and sets to low, which shouldn't be the case, whatever. I crank AA and AF to max, and what I noticed is if I have my textures maxed, my game crashes. If I have them all @ low, the game runs so flawlessly. Somehow, IMO, this high res texture pack has screwed up my game. I even have them unticked and it still happens. Just some thought...

I'm a little troubled by your claim that you "dl'd" the new patch. I assume you meant you allowed Steam to update Skyrim to the latest version. If you meant something else, then I can't help you.

I have not had one single crash during gameplay since upgrading to 1.5.26 (same with 1.4). The game started crashing whenever I quit to the main menu, but that started in 1.5.24 and continues to occur under 1.5.26.

There are a few things you can try:

1) Try the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" option for Skyrim if you haven't already.

2) Backup and then delete the "Skyrim" and "SkyrimPrefs" files in your Saves folder

3) Make sure that Skyboost, Script Dragon, and SKSE are up-to-date if using them as they need an update every time the game is patched (If you didn't know that already)

4) Run the game through the Skyrim launcher, let it detect your settings, and then try running the game.

I would also recommend running the game without mods to see if this make a difference. Also check for updates to your mods as some will need updates to work properly with newer patches.

Edit: Another thought occurs, Steam will not download the HD Texture pack unless one of 2 things happen: (A) You chose to download the DLC or (B ) It is a Steam error, and not a Bethesda error, as the DLC is Opt-In only. If you don't want the DLC, and you didn't authorize it, then contact steam support to have it revoked from your Steam account. Honestly though, as long as you have the DLC files deactivated in the launcher, and also not registered in your Skyrim ini file, then they will not load at all.

Just noticed your http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1364103-crash-after-loading-screen-new-game/page__p__20583963#entry20583963, which goes into greater detail of your problem, and it may be a driver problem by the sounds of things. I just did a fresh install myself and have had no issues at all. Do you use Nvidia or ATi? What drivers are you using for your Video Card? If I recall correctly the 12.2 drivers were giving players problems with their game (Don't remember specifics), so trying an earlier driver may help?

I just tried getting the older drivers from ATI, i have an hd 6950 (flashed to 6970) and when i clicked the "older drivers" button it says "oops, this page has moved" with no link : / lame... By the way, this was from a fresh install and no mods...yet.

Do you mean AMD? If not, you could be on an old ATI site with links that haven't changed since they were absorbed.

Downloaded them from a 3rd party. Skyrim now detects my settings @ high which is perfect... I'm still getting crashes though. Esp when using what graphics the launcher recommends. Although, I can put my textures on "low" and it works fine. I really think it has something to do with the high res textures. I couldn't ever get them to work even when Skyrim was 100% flawless on my rig. Always CTD'd when the loading screen was done, so I've always disabled them. But, then, you said they are independent from the original textures so I don't know how they'd be conflicting. I'm running the 12.1 driver, which I ran with Skyrim before my new hard drive. Is it possible my cards just starting to fault? I got it for Christmas. I've never had any problems with any game until now.

I dont understand how I cant run textures @ full when SC2, WoW, Fallout3 all run @ maximum graphics with no errors. : / it HAS to be something with Skyrim's software. And i tried reinstalling and pulling my interwebs out before the install was over, as to stop Skyrim from updating altogether. Please dont get me started on Steam... Dreadful program...

One thing I did notice, even with the newest AMD drivers, as well as the rolled back 12.1 Im currently using. I cant get AMD overdrive to work. Which is odd, its really the only OCing program ive ever used. It gives me some warning about how it could damage my card, i click accept, and the option is removed entirely from the list on the left-hand side. Which seems odd to me.

My graphics card is an HD6950 2GB but i flashed it to the 6970 BIOS. Maybe somehow this is the answer. Im gonna reset it and see if that fixes anything.

What did you download from a third-party?

Also, you're on a 32-bit OS. You're running out of memory when trying to use the DLC.

I'd trust deaths_soul on this one, he knows what he is talking about, memory address space is running out (or something like that). If you had a 64-bit OS this wouldn't be a problem, would give your card more "breathing room".

I just loaded up the game for the first time after 1.5 and am getting massive CTDs as well. Like, any time I move or fast travel.

I do have the high res pack enabled, and it's a little bit challenging for our video card, but I'd been able to run the game before with no problems. I verified the game files through Steam.

Plenty of memory, so that's not it. That's the usual culprit.

Just had to make sure. There've been way too many people thinking they'd be fine but not realizing they were hitting the memory wall due to various reasons.

Well I played around with it and I don't think it's the hi-res DLC. Whatever I did fixed it, though. LOL I played for about 10 mins and fast traveled around with no CTD, even with the hi res textures enabled.

I wonder if it could have been an old mod I had running that allowed Skyrim to use 4GB memory. I went to update all my mods and disable any that I had added recently which might have been culprits, and saw that that one isn't on Nexus anymore, so I took it out completely.

Eh, possible. It is possible that it conflicted with the 1.3.10 patch since that added LAA support to the executable.

There are a few things you can try:

1) Try the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" option for Skyrim if you haven't already.

2) Backup and then delete the "Skyrim" and "SkyrimPrefs" files in your Saves folder

3) Make sure that Skyboost, Script Dragon, and SKSE are up-to-date if using them as they need an update every time the game is patched (If you didn't know that already)

4) Run the game through the Skyrim launcher, let it detect your settings, and then try running the game.

I would also recommend running the game without mods to see if this make a difference. Also check for updates to your mods as some will need updates to work properly with newer patches.

Edit: Another thought occurs, Steam will not download the HD Texture pack unless one of 2 things happen: (A) You chose to download the DLC or (B ) It is a Steam error, and not a Bethesda error, as the DLC is Opt-In only. If you don't want the DLC, and you didn't authorize it, then contact steam support to have it revoked from your Steam account. Honestly though, as long as you have the DLC files deactivated in the launcher, and also not registered in your Skyrim ini file, then they will not load at all.

Plenty of memory, so that's not it. That's the usual culprit.

Just had to make sure. There've been way too many people thinking they'd be fine but not realizing they were hitting the memory wall due to various reasons.

Have you tried with the DLC disabled?

Might be a stupid question for most of you but here goes anyways... how do you disable the hi res pack?

I was running the game perfectly on win 7 32 bit. my other hard drive happened to only have widows vista 32bit. does win7 allow more memory? i know theres a wally with 32bit. I dont have the DLC ticked. Its never works, so i dont even care. I have never used mods. Yet im still getting crashes all the feckin time. I contacted gamesas, and they gave me a list of crap to do, none of which helped :/ I know its this crappy halfassed patch they released. Steam svcks because I cant revert my game files to patch 1.4 when it ran flawless. Im using the beta 12.4 drivers and i can atleast run around a little bit before crashing @ high settings. So, IMO, use the beta drivers.
