The Half-Assed progression system was a big turn off. It was the same thing that killed multiplayer in Front Mission Evolved . Progression systems only work when there is a large variety of options to unlock, and players start with a fair amount of options. Heck after 3 games of COD you have more options than the entirety of those available in RAGE. Progressions systems are not for every game.

The game has'nt been out but 2 weeks, so it could be a little while before there are tons of multi player games going.
You should try tonight or this weekend.. There tends to be more players on steam then. ;)
I usually load up a game and wait about 30 seconds and someone is ready to play though.

Multiplayer has been thriving at all hours since day one on PS3. Maybe the problem is less the game and more the platform.

Maybe PS3 users are more interested in multiplayer. (I am a 360 user and therefore only speculating)

The lack of TDM is the real reason for that.
Car Combat isn't appealing at all.

The lack of dedicated servers for PC is unacceptable. There's far too much lag. If Doom 4 doesn't have dedicated servers id will lose even more people.

It's already part of their plan for when DOOM 4 releases... I'm just uncertain as to what RAGE will get or deserve

I was looking forward to the multiplayer on this and found i got bored very very quickly......

i uninstalled the 3rd disk after about 4 days, maybe they should of spent the time working more on the story than the multiplayer and had the third disk for that .

Car combat can be appealing. The highly successful Twisted Metal series was built on in. But in Twisted metal, players start with everything except a few hidden characters. In Rage it is a long time before you have any variety. You have to play it a low to unlock the enjoyment.
