People's opinions on new spell elements.

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 6:33 am

So how would people feel if new elements were added to Skyrim for destruction magic? I understand some people will hate this idea as it could go against the lore, but who's to say a hidden group of mages couldn't introduce new magic into skyrim. I have absolutely no problem with that.

Water, dark, holy are some examples. They could have some interesting new side effects.

I know little of lore regarding other magic, any input on that would be welcome.

Thoughts?

That would need sometimes to get accepted by people though, if anyone invent new spell it will probably go to one of the school of magic that exist currently. To create a new school of magic will probably take some times, it's like adding a new kingdom to taksonomy and holy is restoration

I wouldn't mind it at all. There's something called shadow magic where you can manipulate shadows. But I haven't read much lore on magic.

Edit: The only thing I can find on it is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Shadow_Magic

Holy was just an example, but to does seem more suited to restoration so let's scrap that. I liked the whole dark weak to holy, vice versa prospect though.

I'm talking about elemental spells that damage enemies, these would be for destruction.

I'd love if the Collage of Winterhold actually discovered things about magic, such as new elements within Destruction Magic.

Interesting idea. I would really like something similar to Mass Effect's biotics. Could call it dark energy. We really need a DLC that focuses more on magic. As well as fixing Destruction magic (make it scale).

Possible anyway here's the difference of magical school as 3e 432, it's the current system used. Well, minus alchemy

I like the sound of this, the spell animations could look amazing. 'Dark' magic could be even more costly than shock, but have a weakening effect on every hit.

Let's not get into destruction damage on this thread, plenty of threads for that. If a DLC was going to change destruction magic the main thing is the magicka cost, the damage is more than enough.

What sort of weakening effect? If it's fit into any of existing magic schools thatn it should be added there.

Biotics in Mass Effect is kind of like magic, very powerful, but can be very overwhelming to the user. Enough to kill them, if they cannot control it. A person hit by it though becomes weaker and takes damage over time. Now, a magic similar to that in TES would be very interesting. But it can instead be some kind of dark energy. A singularity type of spell would be amazing. Like, if the dark magic was used a lot it could also weaken the user. That was what I was thinking of at least.

All type of magic is overwhelming if they can't control it, as for weakness it's destruction http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Magic

Since they dropped so many magic effects and spell crafting, I would take anything they add!

Uh we already have a water based magic school, its called "Frost". "Holy" spell effects are in the game already, thats what "turn undead" spells are.

Im not being a downer on the idea of more spell variety in Skyrim because imo its sorely needed. But I really dont like people asking to make TES more WoW like.
