People with Disorders

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 7:52 pm

Well I display some qualities of a few personality disorders.
A http://www.4degreez.com/misc/personality_disorder_test.mv on the subject itself though take it with a grain of salt of course.
But to answer your question no there isn't anyone I know who comes to mind except a distant family member with schizophrenia and another with paranoid delusions.

Paranoid: Low
Schizoid: Very High
Schizotypal: High
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: High
Avoidant: Moderate
Dependent: Low
Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate

Considering I answered that rather conservatively... [censored] :teehee:

I go to art school, its odd when people's behaviors aren't weird. But I do know several people with various disorders. I don't really diagnose people with anything, since I know very little about them.

P.S. How'd it get low antisocial when I answered "I like to be alone" to all the questions?!

P.P.S. I swear I'm not that insane guys.

P.P.P.S. I think.

Here's my results.

Paranoid: Low
Schizoid: High
Schizotypal: Low
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: Low
Avoidant: High
Dependent: Low
Obsessive-Compulsive: Low

The Avoidant one is actually interesting. I LOVE public speaking, but one-on-one conversations just scare the living [censored] out of me.

As for diagnosed conditions, In elementary school I had medicine for ADHD, but I stopped taking it in like 5th grade and don't exhibit any symptoms, so who knows if I ever had it.

I know a girl who is germaphobic to the point where her fear has prevented close relationships.

I also knew this guy who was Obsessive-Compulsive and constantly had to add and count things, but medication had it mostly under control. He was actually rather forthcoming with this information to other people, like his quirk wold make people like him better or something.

My aunt teaches Special Education and for the past couple years her classroom has been children with behavioral problems.

Have you know anyone whose behavior appeared odd or bizarre? Do you believe the person suffered from a psychological or mental disorder? What criteria did you use to form such a judgment?

Yeah. I know some people who have had life traumatizin' experiences that have altered their mental health.

However, I feel mental disorders have been blown completely out of proportion. People seem to now try to use them as an excuse for failure. Throughout school, a lot of people claimed to have some form of attention disorder. Their only "disorder" was the fact that they could not stop themselves from drinkin' over a liter of soda a day. They were not mentally ill... they consumed too much damn sugar.

Then there are the social pariahs who for some reason brag about havin' a mental "illness." I call bs on these people, too. Those individuals with real mental illnesses are either crippled by them or so embarrassed by them that they will never tell anyone about them much less brag about it.

Hmm. Well it's got some right: for example I am fairly avoidant, but it's got others completely wrong, such as borderline. Following the links, I can see why it would say that, but symptoms don't make a disorder, which I guess is why they need to be interpreted by a qualified professional in serious cases. It can be a bit of fun but the results should really be taken with a pinch of salt...

The questions are way too generalized, and they mix things into one question. Part may be true, while the other part is not.

lets put it this way.

the only things that I did not get a moderate or higher were: Borderline, dependent, obsessive compulsive.

and apparently (according to this test) I am very high chance of being a schizoid.

the only thing I can confirm is being a narcissist and anti social

now if I can only figure out if I am this way on purpose (because during my preadolecence I fantasized about being insane, because of bad movie/television characterizations of crazy and eccentric protagonists/antagonists)

... of course I don't try to convince people I am insane any more, not since the 4th grade when I succeeded and had to visit a counsoler. I nearly [censored] my self when I realized what happens to people who are actually insane.

I'm bipolar. The worst kind of human on the planet. I don't need to take some test to prove something is wrong with me.

To answer the original question: I know people who I know (not just believe) have disorders of various sorts.

While on the topic of the OP... I'm not keen on the gossip-y tone of it. If this thread were for talking about one's issues and dealing with those of family and friends, I'd be all for that. But instead its about highlighting people with unusual behaviour, making guesses about the cause, and what process one uses to make said guesses. Because of this I'm not going to be nearly as forthcoming as I might otherwise be.

Fortunately, the thread has turned into a quiz thread (person posts up online quiz, people post/chat about the result they get), which I can't help but consider to be a good thing :P.

I'm bipolar. The worst kind of human on the planet. I don't need to take some test to prove something is wrong with me.

No, that's people who insist on playing with their phones the whole way through films ;).

Since my last post was a quote, and I have another fitting one handy, I'll keep up the pattern:

"Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all." -- [president] Bill Clinton, 1999

I'm pretty sure my mother does. Alcoholic, smoker, occasional pain-killer user (when not needed), emotionally unstable, claims to think that people don't like her (I don't believe she actually thinks that, though), etc....

And does autism count? My cousin has it badly, he can barely communicate.

I was diagnosed with ASPD amongst other things not long ago. At the time I fit into the description very well, but I don't think so anymore...I'm more of a narcissist. ;)

I wouldn't be so sure. Apparently I am low on everything except being moderately schizoid, which seems about right

It all depends on what you really define as a mental disorder - are you judging it by what you see (symptoms, behaviour patterns) or its cause - organic - (chemical or electrical balance) or some kind of life trauma or even a combination of both. How is a mental disorder different from any other kind of illness apart from society's reaction to it?

You hurt your foot and can't walk - it is a form of being incapacitated. You see things that are not there and it affects your ability to deal with the world - well that is being incapacitated too - just in a different way. Why are they approached differently? Probably only because our knowledge of feet is so much better than our current knowledge of neuroscience.

The worst kind of human on the planet.

No, sociopath narcissists probably earn that distinction.
