Perception

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:53 am

I was just having a conversation with my girlfriend about people. Since I'm in europe on vacation I asked her about her day and what went through her head during the day. She was talking to mean about how she loves watching people and all the beauty she sees in how as coherent as we are as a whole we are all individuals. She doesn't like to peer into the darkness of our world.

She's an extremely positive person and it's not to say I'm not but I see things so differently. Sure I see the beauty in things I love life but I also have a dark side to me, I love the darkness of the world and how disgusting people and things really are. I find beauty even in murder! Not so much as the idea of murder it's absolutely horrible but how somebody could find murder gratifying is so interesting me because I find it so foul.

I don't know if there is much of a point to this topic other than to provoke thought. Do you guys ever see the strangeness of how we percieve our world?

On a sillier note we ended up talking about how awkward it would be to make out with a whale :D hurr hurr derp

I go through bouts of what your girlfriend's like and what you're like. Right now I think similarly to your girlfriend. :D

I guess I'm more similar to your girlfriend in the sense that I like to see the good in the world, though I definitely notice all the greediness and plain raw mentality of some people.

As someone who values his personal code of honor highly I find it strange how people can stoop so low as to do villainous acts. I don't understand how people can allow their own sense of dignity to drop like that through actions they know are bad. There are of course people with psychological disorders but I′m not talking about those. I'm talking about those that know they are doing something wrong, yet they do it.

So I'm interested in the mindset of bad people but I shun the things they do.

I wish I could see only the good side of things like that. I use to when I was younger, probably due to ignorance and lack of experience, but lately I tend to see only the negatives. I see the good in people easily but when it comes to events or thinking about the future I'm a very negative person..if that makes sense :P

Well, I wanna do done bad things to you before (things that I regret, mind you) and usually I had to first find some sort of justification that would satisfy my twisted moral code. I'm assuming it is something similar for people who commit crimes and do more serious "bad things".

Though sometimes I'll admit that I regret getting caught more than actually doing the deed. I know, I might be slightly messed up. :whistling:

Perception is as infinite as there are people, animals, plants, etc... within the world around us. The only thing I find strange is that I can look at people and get a weird sense about them like they "emit" their emotions like an aura around them. Though it's still tricky at times to tell when people are lying to me however i've learned to rarely give trust until it is due.

Haha I see the negatives in alot of things as well but I suppose I've learned over the years (Mind you I'm only 18) that all the good things are far more important. I read in this book "Why We Make Mistakes" that humans tend to not ever want to think negatively why in reality it helps us, so think of your pessimism as a perk.

I grew up with so much negative that in order to continue functioning as a human being, I find beauty in the mundane, the common, the things we take for granted. Coping mechanism. The universe is an infinite of tomorrows, it is up to me to find or appreciate the meaning in it. When I no longer can, there will be no tomorrows.

what you choose to see and how you choose to see it is how you'll see things. factor in personality and all that, yes, but still, you perceive things according to your preferences and choices. it's like watching a sun shine through different color glass, everyone has their chosen color and describe the sunshine accordingly.

either that or i am trying to come up with something smart to say. but odds are it won't be too smart; i've been up all night, its about 4AM here and i think i just blubbering now. :P :)

and yes, it does look a little strange to me when someone is happy and chill and all while there is undeniably exist bad things in the world. its like they choose not to see those bad things or choose to ignore them. but then to those people my inclination to notice more of bad things in the world and hardly anything good, to them my perception probably is strange, too.

I've got quite a morbid curiosity at times, so I'll find things interesting which some of my friends don't want to think about, and would rather I didn't discuss it with them.
Being positive, optimistic and finding the good in everything is definitely a great way to live your life, but I'd worry it could also make you naive and easy to manipulate or take advantage of.
Not everyone is good, and always looking to find the best in someone might lead you to put trust in someone that you shouldn't.

Yes, the world is strange, our existence is strange, and the tools we have to perceive our world as well as the way our minds handle the acquired data is strange. I sometimes find it strange to simply contemplate the existence of everything, including our sapient, sentient selves. How did what we have develop? If we think something is beautiful, why do others think differently? Why do we think things that the inanimate universe itself doesn't seem to acknowledge? How much truth is there to that sunset looking beautiful or that dark hallway being creepy beyond our own, opinionated perceptions? How can we think so differently from one another? I find beauty in many things that I think may be overlooked, but can't say for sure because I only perceive things through my eyes and don't know what others think. I'm fascinated simply by the thought of certain artistic styles, building materials, final constructs, and variants of just about anything. Contemplating my own existence... it's strange. How did I get so lucky as to have my own personality incorporated into this body under my control? How much of my own view and perception of the world are truly my own? I'm not religious, so that doesn't do much for any of my questions, yet it does for others across a variety of religious beliefs.

How do others perceive something so opinion-changing differently from myself... differently from others? Why do I like video games while other people do not? What makes me love character progression and building simulators while another video game player may prefer competitive online shooting? How did humanity ever come to assemble the hardware powering such, when one thinks about it, amazing amalgamations of code that come together to form a functioning, moving image of a world I can perceive and understand with my own human mind that we know as video games. I don't see good or bad in others, I simply see another individual who I cannot judge as I do not perceive things through their mind.

i think for me it's also about being in touch with reality, that there are thing in the world besides cute kittens and pretty flowers. i think about objectivity, too, taking all things into consideration, not just what you chose to take. though i am way too inclined to be subjective in favor of the bad things and i don't always choose to look at everything myself, still let some biases guide me.

There's something about the darker side of life that's more appealing to me. I find the actions and motives of 'bad' people far more interesting. I like to question people as to why they think or act a certain way, maybe ask them about things which they've not really stopped to consider before. Sometimes people don't like to anolyse themselves too much, or ask themselves searching questions about their own beliefs and motives. I've never been able to understand that mindset.

Most likely because it doesn't exist. Unless you want to take into account the dead and those who have physical brain damage/disabilities. Everyone anolyzes themselves and their beliefs, motives, actions, etc. Some just don't like to talk about it. As much as it would make me happy to think there are brain dead zombie people who blindly follow trends, there aren't.
