Perkless Char Build

Post » Sat Jul 14, 2012 7:50 am

I wonder who else is trying out a char build, but not using any perks? Thus, not become over power at later levels? (being over power can be fun at times , too)

The biggest problem that I have now, what to do with all the stolen goods that I have... any ideas how to hand that? I guess, I have to join the guild so I can sale them off....

I never thought of building a 0 perk character. I currently have a level 25 or so and am working my way towards 80.

Although it's not the same thing as what the OP is trying to do, since I've probably taken 10 or so perks, I really want to save the unused ones and stop taking any more perks until I actually hit 80 and use that as a "Master Save" so I can experiment with different builds. It would work so much better if I didn't take any perks to begin with but unfortunately my free time is limited and I don't have the hours to spend building another character from scratch.

But yeah, a "no perk" have would have it's own set of challenges and I'm sure it would be an interesting play through for those looking to raise the bar in terms of gameplay challenge. :)

I have to say- this is a poor idea.

There are many many ways to limit your power, but i cant imagine a much more boring way than to limit your perks.

The problem is: most of you are looking at perks in a direct "power" rating, i think this is because most of you are still being svckered into taking perks that only buff damage directly (like all 5 armsman perks, or all 5 marksman perks) while ignoring "ability perks" like- being able to zoom in a bow, or cast a spell silently.

All the ability perks expand what you can "do" in the game, rather than increase a silly attack or defense stat. Limiting perks would get rid of these- for no "balance" benefit.

I had a mod that gave me 4 perks per level and I made a super char with all the perks I wanted in all the perk trees. She was level 81.5 So I just trying to play a different way. Hey, it does not work, I still have those peeks in a queue, so I can use them any time I want too

The easiest way to not become overpowered is to just pick one crafting skill to put perks into, or none at all. And if you pick enchanting as that skill, never make anything that buffs, another crafting skill.

Lets say you picked enchanting. You could still smith your weapons or brew a few potions, but never put any perks into it.

How can you even call it a "character build" without perks? Perks are pretty much the only aspect of character creation left in the game.

It is a build in way.. think like this, u have 4 playing cards, how many ways can one arrange them? out of the set of way to arranges them, is if the set is empty -- so my build idea is an empty set

this

I like to build toons that are 'combat weak' now. An alchemist-thief-poisoner. Put no perks into combat skills - perk only sneak, pickpocket, alchemy and eventually speechcraft. Apply level bonus 0:1:10 (mag:health:stam). Or a illusion assassin, similar but swap illusion for alchemy and also have to perk alteration, restoration to compensate for limited potions.

This keeps me from getting OP and I still get to `build` a character.

Sometimes I do hold perks for a few levels.

I am / planing to get all my skills to 100 and use those skills (some more then others, of course), but with out the perk aspect to the skill. 1st, i want a normal build (see how I play), before i have to power level to gain those skills

my other goal, is to explore the balckreach in detail, not do any quests per say (may be later, not in the near future)

one can have
1 red card
1, back, 1 red card
or no cards
in any given set,one can have a full set, half a set, or emepty set of items, but it is still a set all three states

it also a build what skills I use and don't use, so the skills will define my char, not the perks

for example,
how do I combat?
magic or one sword or two sword or a bow?
each way is a different build ( I don't need perks to define that build, perks just helps that build to be more powerful)
I just wanted to a try a very weak build for a while so that I do have to play the number game of what armor is better or what magic / sword / enchantments I want, etc

Right now I'm working on an elven warrior http://skyrimcalculator.com/#156617 and I'm going with relevant perks and 3/5 armsman and barbarian, no smithing or alchemy and enchanting and speech is for late game level 37ish to 50. But I agree on the fact that perking does help a character be that character.
