Perks every two levels still in?

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 4:22 pm

Does anyone know if getting perks every two levels is still in? Personally I really hope so because in FO3 it was just stupid to end up with 30 perks. Having a perk every two (or even three) levels seems much more fun, it would make them more special instead of something you get anyway every time you level up.

I have not seen a definitive answer other than what they set for the final development phase, which is two. This could change with release.

I've seen two, because people talked about using skilled for a perk every 3 levels.

The difficulty level can probably be changed at any time like in FO3, so I doubt it.

I hope it's at least two levels... I'd be fine with picking even less perks, since it would make each selection harder to decide on.... Not getting as many perks requires more playthrus, as well, and that isn't a bad thing.

I wish they would allow you to switch from every 2-3 levels. Especially because I don't have it for the PC so I can't get a level re-balancing mod. But I'm pretty sure they said that it's going to be at 2, though I dont think I read that from anywhere other from these forums. :shrugs:

I sure as hell hope so. Sawyer said that there's lots of new perks, and they're very hard to choose from. So if we can only pick 15, then we have more motivation to play another character... even if there's enough already.

I don't think you'll see every 3 levels. Last I remember reading there was an internal debate whether to make it every level or every 2 levels. And from what I remember is was about 50/50. So there might be a chance that it depends on difficulty setting or normal/HC mode. Or they might finally decide on one of them!

Personally I did enjoy every level in F3. Yes it was a bit of a hand out, but I enjoyed using them to build up my character. Whatever the final decision they come up with I'm sure will work best with New Vegas.

Take the skilled trait. Means you get your perks one level after the norm. Instead of two, it's three. And your skills get bonuses.

I don't see the problem with having a perk every level.

It takes away a lot of replay value, because you've used near on all the perks. In the case of Fallout 3, you could have every good perk by level 30, because the ones Broken Steel added were absolute garbage, so it'd be better to take a decent lower level perk that you might have missed.

For me, the replay value wasn't centered around perks.

For me, the roleplay value did have a lot to do with perks

That and my extreme disdain for the storyline and npc management killed FO3 for me

This can be just another reason to replay the game.

Getting them every single level meant they didn't feel as perks since you got them every time you leveled up anyway.

If they keep it every two levels I'll be happy though.

I hope so. 30 perks is a bit much. You finish the original Fallout with around 5 perks.

Yeah, even every three levels would be nice, that's still 10 perks after level 30.

Hopefully this is not a toggle in the Options or controlled by a Trait.

Skilled?

I don't know if traits like that mean anything anymore (with all the power-ups). I'm just hoping we don't see a "Double Mint" trait that doubles yer fun (by doubling your perks) :(
(or a question & answer segment that asks "Kind player, would you like one perk or two every other level?" ..... :sadvaultboy: )

IMO it should be every three (not just because it has been that way in most of the series, but so that perks are not taken for granted, and are something you really consider carefully
(Which is why they've been that way in most of the series :hehe:).

*Though its really too late to re-balance them all if they were made with frequent perk gaining in mind.

it depends on the perks but every level is prob too many, it does kinda take away from replay value, even though FO3 is fun to replay many times over, i think 15 perks is prob a good number.
