Permanent Bounty in Markarth

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:02 am

I completed the quest entitled,"The Forsworn Conspiracy." When I was doing that quest I helped the prisoners in Cidna Mine escape and helped slaughter the guards upon leaving. I didn't think that it would cause the guards to permanently hate me. Because now whenever I try to enter the city a guard approaches and says,"Halt! You've been charger with murder and conspiracy blah blah blah." And my three options are,"I was framed!", "Fine, I submit. Take me to jail," and "You'll never take me alive!" Obviously the last one doesn't get me anywhere, and the first also makes the guard attack me. If I say," Fine, I submit. Take me to jail." He won't let me go to jail. The whole speech starts over with the, "Halt!" It's obviously a glitch because I can't fix it, and I have had to put like 4 quests on Standby because of it. It's a real pain in the neck having to limit my quests because of my banishment from one of the major cities. Is anyone else having a problem like this? If so tell me, and maybe a moderator will see this and give us a solution.

I'm not sure - I'm not playing a criminal character - but I think if your bounty gets high enough they just try to whack you.

No, I didn't just start killing people, it was part of the quest.

What did you think would happen by helping terrorists? Killing them would've solved your problems and given you a sweet ring, plus being able to kill Thonar.

In my opinion, this is one of the quests that Skyrim does right. If you help the other side, you're screwed! It's always funny how when I'm in the Imperial Legion and slaughter hundreds of stormcloak soldiers in countless battles, I can just mosey on in the Royal Palace in Windhelm.

Do you even know what is going on? Or are you just making assumptions here? This is clearly a glitch, not a design choice.

I'm having the same problem. The quest is complete, but my character got put back into the take you to jail step when she returned to Markarth. Even worse, the guards respond to every choice by killing her. It happened when she went into the Temple of Talos, those two guards were back waiting for her. I'm on the PS3.

Skyrim's Abomb, The Forsworn Conspiracy quest. Only way to get rid of the bounty is to reload a save before you got too far in the quest, avoid Markarth, or wait until Beth patches it but I have no idea if it's going to get patched.

Yeah, the thing is that the quest starts out with being the good guy. Then you find out that it's just not that black and white after all. So again you do the "right thing" and help free the guy. Then the guards glitch and have the same script as they did in an earlier stage of the quest line.

There is one solution that I was able to do. You may not be able to do it without being stealthy but....I ghosted all the guards. All of them in the city and in the castle and anywhere else that may have them within the hold. The idea is that if you can kill them one by one without anyone witnessing it, you won't get a bounty. Even if the body is found. Once they are all gone, all the other npc's function normaly.

It's a glitch. I had the same problem during my first playthrough and since I completed that questline fairly early into that game, it caused me a lot of trouble whenever I had to go into The Reach for another quest. If you are on PC, you can easily fix it by lowering your bounty in the console. If you are on the PS3 or 360 however,
Spoiler
go and complete the civil war quest concerning Markarth. I don't know if this works if you are on the Imperial side, but if you capture Markarth for the Stormcloaks, the Markarth guards will be replaced with Stormcloak soldiers and your bounty in The Reach will be cleared. The soldiers will periodically stop you with the Cidna Mine prompt even when your bounty is clear, but they will no longer be stuck in a loop and will not chase you.

The quest to take Markarth for the Stormcloaks is really hard to do, since it requires stealth and the guards will go after you on sight. The only way I could complete it was to set the difficulty to novice and kill all the guards in the city before I continued with the quest. Don't worry about the insanely large bounty, since it is cleared later on.

I'm surprised this hasn't been patched yet, since this can be game-breaking if you encounter it early on. Hopefully it can be patched soon.

That is a bug. Sometimes a less serious bug occurs involving the guard constantly approaching you askign if you had anythign to do with the murdered remains.

I tried to kill the annoying beggar at the main gate and got the glitch. I was willing to go to jail just to be rid of him but when the guard said go to jail he simply started attacking again. Eventually I had to follow this guy all the way to the warrens to kill him where he sleeps.

I got that permanent kill-on-sight bounty on me in the Reach on my first play through the game. I had killed literally every guard in the city, in the region, and even in the palace just to get some peace and quiet.

Just continue with the Main Quest. I don't want to give you any spoilers, but there will be a way to deal with your Markarth bounty.

Spoiler

When you give Markarth to the Stormcloaks at the treaty of High Hrothgar, the Forsworn Conspiracy bounty goes away.

The thing is, when you try to take Markarth for the Stormcloaks, you are asked to speak to the Jarl of Markarth. And guess what. He despises me too. So I can't talk to him, it's like the most annoying glitch in history. What the Hell Bethesda.

What I did was not killing the guards that was arresting Eltrys. And after escaping Cidhna Mine I just let the forsworn kill everyone while I hide in the bushes. No glitch happened.

But in my case I finished the MQ and gave Markarth to the Stormcloaks.

This is what I did. I do still get a variant of the glitch. When I enter the shrine of Talos the guards are standing over the guy and I get the dialogue about going to Cidna mine again. Rather than send me, they just try and kill me. Killing them gets me a bounty which did get me sent back there with no way whatsover to escape the now nearly-empty prison.

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics and general topics about the the game including but not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. I will move this now.

First of all, when someone goes to the "Skyrim Cheats, hints, and Spoilers" section, that is what they are looking for. Cheats, hints and spoilers. And guess what, nobody actually looks for spoiler, I mean seriously use your head. Secondly, this topic is not for Hints or cheats, it may contain spoilers, but that's why you shouldn't click on it unless you already know what the spoiler is. Anyway, if someone goes the "Skyrim Cheats, hints, and Spoilers" section, they won't click on this, because again, this isn't a hint , cheat or spoiler. So how about you be a good moderator and tell an Administrator about this glitch that plagues most copies of the game. THIS IS A GENERAL DISCUSSION OF THE GAME, THAT'S WHY I POSTED IT THERE
