Personal Journal.

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:55 pm

I know a few people on here that really get into role-playing (like me) keep journals about their escapades through Tamriel. Recently, I decided to do this for myself and I have to say, it has been a ton of fun. However, right now I'm keeping it on pages documents on my laptop. I've thought about actually getting a journal and writing things in but that seems like it would a) be even more time-consuming and B) eventually run out of room. What I'd really like is a computerized, online-type journal. Ideally, I'd like for it to be in-game and have access to it like any other book. But being as how I'm on the 360, I don't have the possibility of a mod for this.

So what I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a site or any type of program that allows you to create journal entries that displays them similar to the way that books are displayed in Skyrim. I want to be able to flip pages and preferably have it look like an older, yellow-brown journal. Again, the ideal template would be the journals that are in-game on Skyrim. Something like this would simply be amazing.

It seems that it might not be difficult to create online for someone that knows what they are doing.

You could make a template for Wordpress.

I toyed with the idea of creating a character journal, but I was advancing way too fast to be able to keep up writing.

I'm just waiting for someone to make the in-game journal system like was in Oblivion. :D

Not only can I write journals while in the field, I can put them in my house when they are full.

This might be possible when the creation kit comes out, but as of yet I don't think it is. Would be a nice Idea though as I myself do like things like this and would love to start one but I'm too lazy and would forget about it within a week, lol.

Yeah, that would be awesome but again, I don't have access to mods. I'd really like some kind of online application that allows me to fill in a virtual book that shows the pages flip. That's going to be the best I've got. I have quite a bit written and I have to say (as nerdy as this sounds) that it is one of the most fun things I've done in a long time. I love writing about what's going on. It helps me understand the story and plot better. It helps make the characters more believable and slows the game down and simply makes it much more enjoyable.

I'm way past caring if my wife makes fun of me about stuff. And plus, she's into Twilight, so she can't make fun of anything I do.

A quick check on DuckDuckGo (more substance, less fluff than google...coughcough), shows many options under 'personal online journal'.
I didn't see any that would have it appear as a tome, per se, but further searching may provide the desired result.

I'm so creating a mod that makes vampires sparkle under sunlight once the CK comes out. Target audience right there.

lol, We're newly weds. So I'm leaking out the nerd in small portions. I'll try not to let her realize what she's gotten herself into until PAX in Seattle. hahahaha.

They do sparkle, right before bursting into flames :D

Anyways, I would do this, but I'd have to drag my laptop over because I hate playing in Windowed mode and I'm not gonna Alt-Tab every 10 minutes. Besides, when I have tried to do this before, I get about three lines into it and then go "Oh, that would be a neat idea for a mod/game."

Although I do have FRAPS, maybe I just record the gameplay and write it later.

That's it. I'm doing this. This'll go great with my hardcoe-RP character. (hardcoe role playing... That didn't come out right.)

The free journal mod for Oblivion was absolutely awesome, I'd like to see one in Skyrim, as well. Too bad I only discovered the mod in question after being positively bored with the game for the most part... Didn't do much writing at that point.

Haha. I told my wife up front. She knew how big of a nerd I was. I keep an online website for my http://www.dynastymanager.com/teampage2.php?u=ggagnon&sport=nhl. So doing something like this is familiar to me. Again, is it nerdy? Absolutely. Is it tremendous fun? Absolutely. At least it is for me. I look for anything that will add to the role-playing experience, since I'm on a console and don't have access to mods.
