Well, his death is limited to the 'Ultimate Spider-Man' series, which is part of the Ultimate Marvel universe,

It's a separate universe from the primary Marvel universe and has already seen the deaths of Xavier (Neck broken), Magneto (Head vaporised), Wolverine (Half Vaporised and then adamantium stripped from bones), Cyclops (Shot through head), Nightcrawler, Dazzler and Beast (Drowned), Giant Man (Blown apart), Wasp (Eaten by Blob), Blob (Head bitten off by Giant Man to avenge Wasp), Dr Doom (Head crushed by The Thing), Dare Devil (Drowned), Steve Strange (Constricted with his own robes till his head popped), a whole host of villans, heroes and mutants (Mostly blown up by the Multiple Man), Multiple Man (Killed by Wolverine) and Angel (Killed and partly eaten by Sabretooth).

It also saw Reed Richards turn evil, The Thing revert to Ben Grimm after his rock skin fell off and develop new powers he could turn on and off at will, saw J Jonah Jameson become one of Spider Man's biggest supporters and saw Nick Fury as Sam L Jackson.

This is one of my problems with comics, the canon is so hard to decipher, there are so many "what if" storylines, so many infinite-worlds type plots.

I think even the creators got tired of his whiny emo attitude.

With Marvel it does seem to be all over the place.

DC is the same. Hence the 'Crisis' events that consolidate storylines and histories.

Most of the titles with both companies do tend to link together. ie: Uncanny X-Men and X-Men Legacy occassionally follow the same storylines and events with parts crossing between. As do Action Comics/Superman and Detective Comics/Batman on occassion.

When I read the title I immediately thought, "Again?"

I don't read the comics, though  (Spidey is a ways down my list; I've got a few TPB's I wanna get through).

I think even the creators got tired of his whiny emo attitude.

The version in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0976192/ was pretty good. But Greg Weisman (of Gargoyles fame) will do that to a series .

That was only Tobey Mcguire's Spiderman. And even that was only in Spiderman 3. In the comics he's cheerful and funny most of the time.

And ironicly, it was in Ultimate Spider-Man they decided to bring back Gwen Stacy from the dead.

That was only Tobey Mcguire's Spiderman. And even that was only in Spiderman 3. In the comics he's cheerful and funny most of the time.

Oh no it wasn't only Spider-Man 3.

Anyhow, since you brought it up, I think this oldie is required for anything concerning Spider-Man 3:

Yeah, that whole deal in SM3 was due to the Venom parasite. Peter Parker is pretty upbeat.

Characters die all the time in comic books. They just bring them back. Unless this is some sort of spin off comic which it seems it is. If they did kill him off properly in the main series it wouldn't matter to me personally. Comic books aren't my thing. I mean I read a tiny bit when I was younger but nothing to get me involved in a universe that has a whole lore and continuity line going back to the 1930s.

They already "killed" the main Spider-Man a couple of years ago, then promptly brought him back with a bunch of weird new powers, and also changed his origin by making his powers magical in origin from some kind of spider god. I'm pretty sure they decided to nullify all of that when they later rebooted the entire series and erased his marriage.

Oh, it's only Marvel and DC that pull that crap. And maybe Top Cow, with their longer-running series (like Witchblade). But, for the most part, finite titles tend to have plots that make sense and don't jump the shark with that kind of stuff.

I'll believe it when I DON'T see him return from the dead in some kind of convoluted issue selling marketing ploy. Even The Flash is alive again, and he was long running the deadest of comic characters. Superman didn't stay down long, and continues to be a top grossing title. Spiderman is a top cash cow for Marvel, especially with a new movie comeing out (which I would wager this is being used to market) and the chances that they leave him dead after the movie launches are pretty slim in my opinion. All the fans that rush out to buy comics after they see the movie are going to be disappointed and confused to find there is no Peter Parker in there. I give it 6 months to a year before Peter Parker is revived.

Can't say I really care, don't really like franchise-owned comics. Crap like this is pulled for shock value and marketing all the time. He'll be back, using some stupid device involving alternate universes, magic, SCIENCE!, cloning, or time travel. Or all at once.

When I first herd this, I thought WTF?! So I went online and found out it wasn't the MAIN Spiderman titles or univers but an ALTERTANTE UNIVERSE where nothing really matters. I have quit collecting comics about 15 or so years ago so not so up to date. All I can see is Marvel is going the DC route now and having different realities and different universes were things don't really matter and don't follow past fluff/history/lore.

I thought DC got out of this by having Crisis but think I herd they went back to it, so not sure if it's true or not. So in the other 4 or 20 Spiderman issues, Peter Parker is alive and well.

This is like saying Obiwan Kenobi is alive and along with Darth Vader in a different Star Wars Universe. It really doesn't matter because it's not "real" in the comic universe because it's just a different way of telling stories. I am shocked a bit to read what a previous poster said about Proffessor X, Magneto and everyone else being killed off. So it looks like this series is to kill off people and try to reinvent the Super Hero. In this case it's Spiderman being Black and Hispanice and maybe even gay.

That's certainly how I remember him from my childhood, and I'd like to add that I loved Tobey Mcguire as Parker, he felt like a perfect fit to me. Some say he was too handsome, but look at the comics and tell me Peter wasn't drawn just like all other prettyboys at the time, come on. Anyway, I liked him for that role, even Spiderman 3 I didn't mind because I knew there was a reason he was acting like a dike, and I literally did a spit take in the movie theatre when he backhanded Mary Jane across a room :P The guy in front of me didn't seem to mind strangely enough, possibly because he was in a laughing fit himself.

Because violence towards women is hilarious...right?

Anyway, in short, I thought Spiderman 3 was worth watching at the very least, it's not like the ticket cost me much back then and I didn't feel like I had wasted my time, I've got nothing better to do most of the time anyway, certainly not back when that came out. Only thing that bugged (Sorry) was that Venom wasn't in it more, I was always a huge fan of Venom.

Now, to get on the actual topic. I don't care, I never followed continuity as a kid, I just picked up random issues. And the issues published in Norway didn't follow continuity half the time anyway but just kinda came out erratically. I like spider man and if I find a good stand-alone story I'll buy it, but I can't be bothered following continuity these days, it's too much of a hassle.

That being said, if anyone knows of any good stand-alone paperbacks or something for Spiderman, let me know. I love being able to just get a book, read a story and be done. Like Watchmen, yeah it's a miniseries, but I have it all in one book so it kinda fits. Something in that format is what I'd like to read.

Meh.

Super-heroes die, get resurrected, die, get resurrected, die in an alternate universe(like Peter Parker)..... saying Peter Parker's dead is like saying the Master's dead. Even if he actually is, you just know he's going to be resurrected eventually.

The whole thing reminds me of a geeky soap opera.

Sorry I forget the names, but I stopped collecting comics over 15 years ago. But the Spidermans I read that are one shots, or a story, is one with Kraven the Hunter I think. Awsome story. If I ever find it, I will let you know, but try looking for about 15 or 20 years ago with Kraven the Hunter. Can't remember if it was actually part of the Spiderman books or a graphic novel. ONe of the best I have read at that time.
