I play without SHOUTS... am I missing out?

I admire the work that has been done by the developers and content creators (not the same thing!) in Skyrim.
It is so vast and open that it truly, really allows you to play the game at your own pace, in your own way.
It is sooooo vast, that you can easily forget what you were up to in the first place!
(Like this: http://kotaku.com/5862021/skyrim-is-the-pinnacle-of-short-attention-span-gaming)

And something like that happened to me.
I started playing a thief, that evolved into a stealth archer.
I am now level 40 and have killed many, many dragons.
And I have just met the Graybeards.

Through random exploration and walking, I have collected 9 or 10 one-word shouts. With the dragon souls I have collected I have opened them.
But I only use one: the one that lets you see your opponents in pink.
Yes, I am sure it has a nicer name and a special dragon word, but to me it's just the one that lets me find enemies in dungeons.
My 9-year old son said: "Oh, look! It's like detective mode in Bat-Man!" Interesting comparison. The things kids say...
(If you have not played Arkham Asylum or Arkham City you wouldn't get this comparison)

But the question I want to ask is:
Do you really use all the shouts?
I don't, and I don't miss them.
My bow, poisons, and stealth combo allows me to find targets from afar, shoot, and kill even dragons without taking more than 50% of my life in damage.

Just curious to know if I am the only one who does not use them.

If I ever play the game again, and use a fighter configuration, I am sure I might use them.
But not now...

I haven't even touched the main Quest so I still don't have dragons in my game.

Sometimes. It really depends on your play style. Marked for death, Throw voice and enemy detection should help your thief.

Maybe if beth makes more shouts and shout improving items like the amulet of Talos I might even make a shout based character.

Well, it's a choice you make, but I use alot of shouts tbh. Maxed unrelenting or throw voice is too funny to let go.

I have half of the different shouts unlocked. Out of those 2 are fully unlocked and one has two words on them. Eventhough I don't constantly use them they are pretty sweet. Especially since i'm a nightblade character that doesn't use any other magic. The storm shout is pretty epic. Just don't use it while in town though.

Yes you're missing out.

Force push opens up new inventive ways to kill people and is just fun as hell.

Whirlwind dash allows you to get to secret treasure rooms that are not accessible without it.

Become Ethereal allows you to cliff dive and other fun things.

Throw voice allows you to distract enemies and sneak around them.

Theres no reason not to use your voice..

Ya I don't get why you wouldn't want to use it unless you were role playing that you weren't the dovakiin or something.

It's not that I don't "want" to use them. I just didn't see the need.

But the recommendation above to max out unrelenting force and the ethereal form do sound like fun.
I know what I'm doing tonight! :-)
