Am i playing correctly?

Pretty much answered. Lots of good advice to consider.

I was very new to TES games, Skyrim being my first, and I did make a few "errors" if you will, on using perks on my first character.

The game really is great in that "you are what you do." I started out my first and thought magic would be very good (High elf), but later found that i really loved how being a sneaky archer worked, and started up those trees.

I guess the best is to play and see what you need to fit your playing preferences. I confess to finding magic a chore without really sinking a lot into perks and enchanted gear to ease the cost. YMMV

Have fun most of all!

You can't play incorrectly. Simply find a way to play that you're enjoying and you'll be OK.

no, playing as any race but khajiit is wrong :teehee:

Fixed

Majority of a skill's power comes from the perks, so spreading them around is not something i would do, especially considering how scarce they are in Skyrim. I tend to focus them on the skills my character will be using. Atleast getting perks for strengthening the weapon/spell type you mainly use for offense would be a good idea.

My current assassin character for example has most of the archery perks and sword and dual-wielding realted perks of the one-handed tree.

one or two magic trees is no problem if you play a warrior, more than that can be a bit thight on points (depends on how many other trees you focus on) but can work fine. what i have seen most ppl do is limit them self to 7 perk trees (that was the number of major skills you had in oblivion) but depending on "how high" you want to go in a tree it can be more or less.

Max level is 81, but you start to level real slow after you hit the 50 mark (i think)

Do what you enjoy. But the problem I see, rather than worrying about perks, is that if you get into a situation where your skills need Magic AND Stamina, you will be splitting the points there. You'll also need Health, so then you are splitting them three ways. Of course, there are potions and enchantments that help all that, but I think it's smarter go stick with two out of the three to put points into. Just a thought.

Magic is in general not worth it even with unlimited magicka due to the pathetic damage. Especially at higher levels.
My pure mage would have to disagree with you.

The easiest way to look at this question is to simultaneously ask "Am I having fun?"

Some people like to gimp themselves on master, some like to role play a serious or wacky character, others like to console command themselves to have 100 in every skill. So long as you are enjoying yourself, you are playing correctly.

This is why people believe stuff like this, you obviously haven't used 'magic' if you think it's weak and has pathetic damage, yet you make bland statements like this. Don't listen to this guy.

To the OP, the question you need to ask yourself is "am I having fun doing what I'm doing".
