Playing as the Province's natural race

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:31 am

In Morrowind you played Dunmer
In Obivion you played Imperial
In Skyrim you played Nord
etc

I never played Morrowind but i will admit i played an Imperial in Oblivion and a Nord in Skyrim, but i feel i enjoy Nords more than any other race now and its very possible i may play a Nord mainly in future games also, i find however that i would rather play a character that can relate to the setting more however so i can immerse myself more easily. If the next game is in Eleswyr i would probably create a Khajiit and etc. If i ever get Morrowind (which i probably will) i will probably play a Dunmer, this might be because i sort of mainly feel i havn't given the other races a real chance in the other games and so now its a chance i can in their natural province...

But im confusing myself now, what do you guys do?

I usually create multiple characters, but have been playing an Imperial since Morrowind. As an Imperial in Cyrodiil (Oblivion), I felt no different from a Breton or any other race I played.

My first Skyrim character was a Nord, my first Oblivion character was a Dunmer. My first character in Morrowind will be a Dunmer. Less because they're the native race and more because they're awesome.
I usually decide my character's race based on the story scraps I put together, but for first characters it's different. I just choose the race randomly and create their personality along the way, focusing more on exploring the game and doing random things.

I prefer my race to be a little more exotic or foreign and not be a part of the common rabble. It gives my character a little more purpose like the "why am I here?" sort of feeling

I'm hoping the game takes place in Eleswyr and Valenwood (toghether they are both the same size as skyrim, if not a little bigger) heres a link to my idea: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1312910-tes-vi-xylo/page__fromsearch__1 ;D

I badly want to play as a Khajiit who grows up a pickpocket and scoundrel as a child and eventually joins an awesome Rebellion against the Aldmeri Dominion!

I dont ONLY play the Native race, it just sort of always becomes my main character, i have multiple characters whom i love playing in each game..

My Nord in Skyrim came from Skyrim, but has a bit more of a unusual upbringing, which makes Skyrim alien to him at the start of the game.. im not going to explain right now, because i have about 1000 words on his backstory alone, but its extremely original and thats the sort of amount of thought i like to put into my characters, so if people think im just picking the character because its the native race, i do actually like to create original stories for them..

Agree Khajiit are wise and cool
On one mission I had an option to say "You are a disgrace to our race, I spit on your fur :D''

I have played several characters in the past three games, but I have had at least one of the local race in each. That said I generally prefer to play as a Nord and I am not a big fan of playing as a beast race(I don't have anything against them, I just never play them anymore). I don't go for the "Race fo the Province" deal though.

My two favorite races since Morrowind were Imperial and Dark Elf, I guess because I like the hybrid races. So I did end up playing as the titular province's race a lot of the time (especially in Morrowind, since Dunmer have like 3x the face and hair choices as any other race), but I don't know if its purely because I wanted to fit in, or just because I liked those racial bonuses the best.

I've never (seriously) played a Bosmer, Khajiit, or Argonian before. And I only made a High Elf in Skyrim because at last they look kind of cool. Maybe if the next game was set in one of the home provinces of any of those I'd give them a try. In fact I probably would, so I guess that in fact which race a province favors does have some bearing on my choices.

My first character is always the provinces natural race, then I have gone for Breton Mages as my 2nd character every time.

Morrowind: Nord, living in Solstheim (I don't like dunmers).

Oblivion: Played as an Imperial Legion Battlemage. Lots of fun with him :)

Skyrim: Nord again. It's the most fitting, and not planning to change even when http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/images/9782-1-1332206336.jpg (but maybe getting some summer clothes will be mandatory...).

Morrowind: First, Khajiit. Second, Bosmer. Third and everyone since, Dark Elf

Oblivion: First, Altmer full on Mage which I soon found out did not level properly and became a difficult playthrough. Second, female Bosmer probably my favorite all-time character

Skyrim: first, female Bosmer till level 14 then an Imperial Artemis Entreri build that has been sitting at level 45 since December

Funny thing about Morrowind is even playing as a native you feel like an outsider no different to anyone else. (and the natives seem to agree with you with their cries of "YOU N'WAH")

In Skyrim playing a Dunmer was even more interesting due to the racism element, lots of people comment on you being an elf and rant on about "your kind were responsible for the great war". it did feel odd though that after I beat the hell out of that stone fist guy for saying "Damn Greyskin go back to Morrowind" he's now all like "Good to see you friend". Didn't feel right.

My next playthrough at the moment is an Argonian and already feels more accepted than my Dunmer lol

Morrowind: mostly bretons - and other races
Oblivion: mostly bretons - and other races
Skyrim: mostly bretons - and other races

Play whatever you like and in skyrim same char build from different races do play slightly differently which is good.

morrowind was played as a bosmer. oblivion was a bosmer, dark elf, and orc. skyrim so far a bosmer, orc, and now i am finally playing with a nord to do the main questline. first time doing that mainly because of all the bugs i had heard about but hoping they are fixed as advertised lol. after the nord i plan on doing the college questline with a dark elf. bosmer is my favorite race in case u can't tell lol.

I create multiple characters of various races with different viewpoints. For example I am planning on playing an Altmer whose hatred of the Thalmor is such that she joins the Stormcloaks.

I agree. It's kind of fun to feel like you are in a foreign place. I played my second time through as a Nord, and honestly, did not feel much different. It's all in the role playing I guess.

I doubt they would make a future game in Elsweyr or Black Marsh. I think it would put of many non-hardcoe gamers who just want to play the game casually, maybe haven't played any TES before, they wouldn't like to see a game full of humanoid cats or reptiles. It's all about money, if that puts off the average gamer then it's probably a no.
