Playing on widescreen or nornal monitor?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:40 am

Which do you use? I've just changed from normal to a new widescreen and I'm finding it a bit hard to get used to. Things seem a bit stretched. People and doorways are definately wider looking.

I'm running a 22" 1920x1080 LED monitor.

Things certainly shouldn't be looking more stretched out. Did you change your resolution in the in-game settings once you got your new monitor? If you're still running your old resolution on a new, wider moniter, this will cause the image to look all weird and stretched out.

19" widescreen PC monitor (1440x900). I have seen some topics about Field Of View (FOV) but I haven't messed with mine yet.

Make sure you didn't change the ratio (should be 16:10).

1920x1080 and no.

I think your not used to the FOV setting, it will feel more natural soon. They do this to make up for the fact you have no peripheral vision while looking at a flat screen. Without it there would be a tunnel vision feel.

Eh, I wish I had a widescreen. Unfortunately my monitor is a bit of an antique.

Yeah, it's probably pushing 15 years old and it's a bit of a beast. A new monitor is at the top of my list for upgrades, though.

*cough* I'm uh, using a slightly more exotic one myself ;)

/or I would, if Beth would stop wrecking the 3rd party patches that fix their bastard of a new GUI vs what used to work with all their other games *shakes tiny fist*
//or if they'd just fix it so that the GUI is remotely aware that 3x horizontal does not automatically equal 3x the vertical that'd be even more swell, you know like how it works with all their other games

I remember when I got a 19" CRT and thought that was so sweet.

Ah, 1998.

Well, when I built my first computer, I grabbed a spare that was around the house. Then I had a laptop, so I didn't need a seperate monitor. Then I built my current rig and just grabbed my old monitor. It still works beautifully. It's just not a widescreen like my laptop was.

Neither.
I just have a keyboard in front of me, coupled with my imagination.

Widescreen here, 1280 x 720. I could up the resolution more but it cuts my framerate too much for my liking.

I use a widescreen monitor when I'm gaming and I can't imagine going back to a "normal" monitor.

Right now it's Xbox and a 42" 720 plasma.

In 4 weeks it will be an i7/GTX 570 on a 47" 1080p LCD 120hz
