Please acknowledge the Texture Issue with 1.4

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:19 pm

Alright, I am going to try and do this in the most just and civil way possible.. 1st off I play on XBOX 360. Have with every Bethesda game I've purchased thus far.

Hi! Names Hippnotic! Fellow forum-goer of the beloved gamesas Forums. <3

TL;DR - I'm growing tired of Bethesda's silence on the Texture Issues with Skyrim. Us players on Console (X360/PS3) shouldn't have to constantly try and fix our own games so that they run as intended. That's the developers job with patches.

NEVER have I had any form of texture issues with any game I've ever played before. Including TES4, Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Yes I had bugs and I know bugs will always exist. But to just keep shoving the topic aside like nothings going on is growing old.

This topic exists because there's hundreds of people here and 3-4 in the actual "Issues" Forums. So please don't move this.

What I am doing is basically an attempt to gain attention from either a Developer*, Admin. or Mod to shed some light down Bethesda's Dark and Dank Tunnel at the office.

I am a HUGE Bethesda fan and with each game my love for the games you guys/gals create grows in multitudes! You surprise me at every turn, and keep true to the way you make your game and I respect that.

But, what I don't respect is the sheer silence on (IMHO) the biggest issue facing Skyrim in it's current state: Textures

Now, I had the same issues as other people did with 1.2 where the textures on your hands and weapons wouldn't properly load. I eventually found a remedy for that and had no problems with it since. I did have occasional bad textures with certain cities like Windhelm and Markarth but nothing really major.

1.3.5.0 was a dream come true for me with the exception of my Weapon Racks eventually bugging up. No texture issues at all, my game was absolutely gorgeous and a sight to watch. I'm pretty sure it was running the best possible textures it could.

Now the entire environment is completely downgraded. Staircases/rocks/buildings/paths/architecture/etc. Everything around you in a sense. I've tried for 5 hours today to remedy this bug and nothing will work. Now I've just given up entirely...

Why? Because even after re-caching the HDD and replacing my TU with an older version (1.3.5.0) it looked and acted exactly the same if I was off of 1.4.19.0.4 or w/e the numbers are.. no difference.

Is there anyway of maybe getting my saves on my PC and sending them to Bethesda to look at? Besides that I have no idea how I could show exactly what I'm talking about that's going on. I tried making a video to no avail because it's a crappy webcam.

It seems I am the minority here with this bug because apparently over 75% of people aren't complaining anymore since the patch.. my games been running flawlessly. With the exception of the weapon rack bug.. that 1.4 fixed.. and then completely obliterated my textures in exchange?! -.O

Your saves wouldn't do them any good, as the texture references are lined up at save game load. Since the XBox version is programmed very similarly to a PC, I can tell you, that's why texture replacers work, because it loads the textures in the loading screens. Seems to me like they traded the textures for lower res to improve performance. Don't know what recaching the HDD does exactly in terms of what's replaced, but if it only exchanged the .exe, then that's why; the textures aren't stored in the .exe., but in Bethesda Softwork Archives (BSA) files, at least on the PC they are.

i agree..my textures on wep/hand don't load properly on my xbox, once i open the skill menu they revert to like half res and never come back at all, until my xbox is restarted..

The most annoying ones I have seen is where the ground textures fail to load for a while, and some dragons failing to load their textures until they die.

Hmm. When the game patches, it updates the .INI, which could reset the settings to the default for your graphics card, which might be medioum or low quality as opposed to high. There's also the possibility that anisotropic filtering was disabled, which would affect the sharpness of textures.

To clarify, it is the texture sharpness you're refering to, yes?

EDIT: Erm, well, don't I feel foolish? This won't help at all if you're not on PC... of course, you never said explicitly that you weren't, unless I missed a few references.

Didn't the Xbox have a higher-res texture download? Or do I mis-remember?

Between versions, the structure's the same -- BSA files. The defaults are overrided by the Update.bsa file, which, in the case of the Xbox, may replace a number of textures with lower-resolution ones, though I've heard nothing of this.

And one should never rule out the possilbilty of faulty memory or eyesight, or perhaps it's the televison's fault -- you never know.

Considering he's on an XBox, in honesty, he probably won't know. Low res, no AF, they look pretty similar. And he can't crack open the .ini or launcher to change his settings, which will be virtually the same as every other XBox out there.

@PrinceShroob I'm on 360. Texture sharpness basically. And in a way color saturation. I noticed from the beginning of the game to getting off the cart with Ralof that his Cuirass was the Blue it was supposed to be.. kinda dark and bold.

Once we got off the cart it went WAAAY down.. it seemed like I went from 1080p to 720p. I even checked my TV to make sure I was on 1080p..lol. His clothing was so light blue and I could tell the texture degraded in his clothing as well. Same goes for anyone else that I saw it's not just environments it affects NPCs textures as well.

IDK what I did.. i've been careful all this time but this patch just effed up everything for me..

you guys are misunderstanding the problem the OP is talking about...on the xbox version of skyrim, on some peoples games (not all) when you load the game, all the textures look great, pretty crisp (as far as xbox gpu allows) and it looks normal, pretty much the same as the pc. but when you open up your menu, skills, etc, the textures on your arms/weapon go so muddy that it's literally just blobs of color, the different is truly like that of a nintendo 64 game, it's so huge that it's just a gaping hole as far as like "wtf is that" type thing, it looks really really bad, and that doesn't go away until you turn the xbox off and restart the console..

No.. that is just your issue. I have no problems with my hand textures or weapon textures AT ALL. Nor with my characters appearance either. Those are pretty much the only textures that look normal.

no, that's not just my issue, that's the majority of peoples issue, read some threads in the xbox support forum, this problem plagues like 1 in every 3 version of the game, it's ridiculous, and they haven't commented on it one single time. i thought that is what you were referring to though, sorry.

i really hope they havent lowered the textures of the game, and i cant tell if they did cuz i just buyed the game because of the 1.4 patch for my ps3, the game is running really smooth, but i have the game on pc too, (its not a good pc) i downloaded for free just to see if it looks better or not (the textures of course) and i can say that in my pc looks really good, of course in my ps3 looks way better (i have an awesome TV ;D) but i really hope they havent lowered the textures or im gonna be forced to store the game and wait for a patch that makes the textures high res again

Oh trust me.. it's not my TV. I have absolutely no problem playing any of my other games (Battlefield 3, GoW3, Oblivion and Fallout.) What I don't get is back in the day you could basically install the texture files onto the HDD when the game itself was installed. WHY oh WHY didn't they do this with Skyrim? This is your BIGGEST game released so far, a game which you pushed to it's very limits and this is what happens when the dust settles.

I would LOVE if BGS can somehow find a way to make THIS^ work! I'd even PAY for a texture pack download just to ensure my textures load and I NEVER have problems with them. (Besides Weapon Racks textures are my ONLY issue...)

That or completely devote your time and effort into FIXING Textures with 1.5

I haven't had any issues with the skill screen yet, though I did have a dragon go low-res in the middle of a battle. At the start, it looked normal, then it flew off, and when I caught up to it, the dragon looked "muddy" and parts were invisible.

This issue is something that seems to come and go. Usually, if I have to reload at all, I just exit to the Xbox 360 desktop and restart the game from there.

Now everything from the environment, to my menu and hands/weapons are majorly degrading to low res textures... This is such BS!..

Admin/Mod.. Developer even? Somebody please give me something..

I'm on a X360, 250GB Slim and have never had an issue before 1.4.

Also have a 40" 1080p TV with a Monster HDMI cable.. trust me I know what Skyrim looked like Hi Res vs Low Res!

I get this too, the random low res textures and it makes me sick to my stomach. Some days it looks amazing and other days (tonight for example) I almost can't bear to play. Wtf, Bethesda??

Its not the game. Its the fact that you play on a console. Consoles use 2006 technology and are known for their low textures. Upgrade to a PC and all issues will be solved.

Wow! It is the game buddy, Bethesda isn;t supposed to release a game with texture issues no matter the system. Texture Popping is one thing, but texture MIA is another. I have both Xbox and a GREAT PC yet i play skyrim on xbox for a nice vanilla playthrough. Grow up and stop telling people to play on PC

Edit: after patch i am having some hand issues and general textures

Yup, had the same issues. NOT ONLY is my environment going down the toilet.. but so are my hands/weapons in hand. This just keeps getting worse and worse.

BETHESDA, I have tweeted you several times on all THREE of your Twitter accounts.. please quit ignoring me (and I'm sure others) who are trying to get your attention!

I am having texture issues as well on the 360 but I find there are more serious bugs than texture issues and I am overlooking the texture bug for now.

Alright, so I was recommended by someone to format my HDD all entirely. Just backup all my stuff and whipe it clean. Then to play Skyrim off the disc, without the update just straight off vanilla Skyrim.

Textures did in fact come back, and in full force. But once I hit the 30 min mark in my playtime I started seeing certain objects like stumps, counters/tables, etc. degrading to mud. Once I hit the 1 Hour mark the game finally caught up and decided to take all my textures, including environment.. down..

So I thought to myself, maybe if I get the patch (which has traces of the old patches), it will possibly fix the issue? Nope it's still the exact same even after getting the update. Nothings really coming back either as much as I run into it and try to make it pop back in..

At this point I really don't know then.. I don't understand how the game can go from looking magnificent.. the way I had it looking at 1.3 and then it still degrades to crap (all textures) even when I'm running off the disc. WITH NO 1.4 PATCH YET

And my textures (after 1 hr of play) caught up and degraded to the way it was before? I don't get it.. !!!!!!!!!
