It's something that could easily be addressed with them in a civilized manner. Obviously the majority is going to play this online, and if they want to play without random people, they'd make a private server.
It's REALLY not that hard to get everyone set up and going without playing on LAN. And dropping the split screen is a more common thing with modern shooters.
