I don't want this feature so does that mean I get to thumb down your post? I just think this system would lead to arguements also I don't see how this is related to Skyrim.
We had these several versions of the boards ago. It was so nice when they were removed and that is why they are not coming back.
I'm really curious, what was the problem? I'd think it would help cut down on spam. Instead of saying "this" or "qft" people could just hit the +1 button.
Edit: I'm just talking about the positive side. Obviously, thumbs-down / -1 buttons are just avenues of anonymous trolling.
If you look at Facebook's "like" model, you'll notice that there is no "dislike." The reason for this is to create a positive environment.
Even though introducing such a system would make users think twice about being "disliked" before they post, I bet it would turn off a lot of users and cause a lot off topic discussions on why a post was so popular.

Then even more people would reply in agreement, just to get thumbs up for agreeing with the original post. Yes, that does happen... often the number of thumbs isn't relevant to the quality of your post, but the number of people who agree with your opinion.
We shouldn't have thumbs up/down, but we should have a Facepunch style rating system - agree, disagree, late, bad spelling, dumb, zing, funny, etc. It would save so many 'this' and '+1' posts and stuff.

I may disagree with some elements of how this forum is run, but the absence of up-/downvote buttons isn't one of them. They're fairly pointless anyway since they're just another element of forum popularity contests; if there're members I get on with I'll take notice of them, whereas if there're people who are annoying I'll put them in my ignore list: no voting buttons necessary...
