PLEASE...Bethesda! Give us Uncompressed GERMAN Synchro!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:25 am

You know what, guys and gals? I played Oblivion in German and felt it kind of difficult for me, getting used to all the English names and Elder Scrolls terms when I installed Skyrim it in English (after all that has been written about the German Localization...)

I switched to German on Steam, because I somehow felt more "at home" with the German terminology... Well, what shall I say, apart from the really massive differences in the acting/speaking quality to the English? I mean, we all know by now, the English voices are much more convincing...

But, the thing that I think really annoys us more and shortens the quality of your, in other parts wonderful work, Bethesda, is the fact that the mere sound quality is just incredibly compressed. You cannot be serious with this. It would be so easy, publishing the initial high quality sound files on Steam as a download!

Please, Bethesda, release the sound files, German players deserve!

Everybody, who ist with me on this oppinion, please answer to make this topic big and HEARD !

I hardly play any non-English games these days, part of the reason beeing aweful translations. I can fully understand that people are pissed about this because not everybody can handle English versions and those people deserve good localization.

I have not played any Dubbed games, but if they are anything like dubbed movies I have watched, I shudder to think what it would be like in a game.

I have not heard of the low compression on the sound files before this. Try validating the files and see if something got downloaded weird.

I have heard about this in multiple forums before, lots of players are having the same problem. It becomes obvious in "s" sounds and worsens even more when you are using headphones (good ones, I am using an expensive Sennheiser).

The download is the official one via Steam. Everything else seems to be correct. Have you played the game in German before? You would know exactly what I mean, those are compression artifacts I am hearing...

the german bards are better than the englisch bards. seriously, as i switched to the english version, because of mods, i was like: "wtf is wrong with their voices?"

also shortly after the switch i sometimes felt like living in russia.

How's the localization anyway? Is it like Oblivion with the "Ger. Tr. d. Heil." or is it better now?

There exists a mod for Oblivion, a quite extensive one actually, that deals with all the written translations and the length of some corrupt speech lines, where the sound file was missing and you lost the subtitles because of it. I don't remember its name, but it's pretty much the only one, and very good indeed. I can only recommend it.
