Please fix Grim Reaper's Spirit!

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 9:26 pm

You are 20 (or more) level when you take this perk, enough of your suffering, you should now regenerate ALL the AP after killing someone in V.A.T.S.!
And Action boy should have more AP not just 16! Better 25 like fallout 3! Afterall the V.A.T.S. is a game feuture and should be used more, thus producing more fun!

It is not broken man I know. Fix I mean do it better. I mean can you compare this with the explorer perk as it is? Dont you like to have all the AP restored?

It was more of a decision they took knowingly than a bug. It's true VATs is to slightly reinforce more of a turn based feel.

Most people however just go into VATs and headshot. Which is why it was toned down plus Obsidian/the few Beth employees on the team might of thought it was overkill a little bit,

Try branching out and attacking limbs strategically then going for the kill out of VATs.

If you want VATs all the time you'll need to stick to chems or use a PC Mod.

If u play in a harder difficulty it is nice to have the grim reapr's spirit giving you all the AP back (you dont kill so often with a single VATS use in harder difficulties).
I know it is not a bug, fix=make it as it was in Fo3

Sure but not much to do about it bud. If your playing on the PC version there's a lot of mods in places like The Nexus to have unlimited AP or make the perk function like FO3.

On the 360 version like me or PS3 your stuck as is unless you come across an unlimited AP/AP instant regen bug.

The option you probably have is buying a crap load of Jet(From the wiki: Jet immediately boosts your current action points by +15, as well as raising your maximum action points by the same amount for 4 minutes)

No, I don't. By level 30 the game is already starting to get too easy. (Much less by level 40.) GRS in Fallout 3 was broken. You could chain up headshots and basically be invincible since as long as you killed just one enemy, you could pop up vats and continue the chain.

I took Grim Reapers Sprint once in Fallout 3, then realized it was just too much. Just makes things way too easy for me, even on very hard. As it is in New Vegas I still find it to be a bit much, but i think it is much better balanced as it is now.

As for Action boy/girl, it was also too much in Fallout 3 for me. When combined with GRS it was just plain mind numbing from a challenge standpoint. I went to a place filled with more than 10 super mutants and talon company. I killed them all in one VATS chain with those 2 enabled, was just silly.

I just prefer the challenge of trying to hit the legs and arms and head out of VATS and using VATS when I get overwhelmed and am in danger of dieing.

GRS in Fallout 3 was broken.

No, they both work as intended, just slightly differently. Just because people don't personally like something, or approve of it does not a break make.

By broken I believe he means not balanced. I think any reasonable person would agree that the perk was an "I win" button.

This.

It was working as intended, however after getting this perk, there was hardly an enemy (or group of enemies) that could challenge you.

Yes. It works in the sense that the code will resolve itself properly. It's broken in that the people who made it should be slapped with a fish because it invalidates nearly every challenge in FO3. And legitimate challenges in FO3 are pretty rare to begin with.

The only thing I have to add to this thread is this:

It's Grim Reaper's Sprint, not spirit. I see this mistake all over the place. Sorry for being an ass, but this is just one that drives me nuts, and it's a short drive.

/pedantry

-gunny out.

Nope. Hated Grim Reaper's Sprint in FO3 for reasons already articulated. Broken from a balance standpoint. You became too much of a god, so Beth had to create Overlords and Albino Radscorpions and Ghoul Reavers, which overwhelmed every other npc and travelling merchant in the game. (The brotherhood of steel are supposed to be a match for the supermutants, but a solitary overlord with a trilaser could reliably overwhelm every guard outside the citadel. I'd bet 2 overlords or 4 reavers could clear the entire interior) That still wasn't enough, overlords and hillbillies had to get massive bonuses for trilasers and lever action rifles. The whole game spun out of control, because the Lone wanderer's combat prowess was plain silly.

As said already, VATS was an "I win" button. Broken Steel/PL enemies aside, you didn't have to think or plan through your battles much. No use of cover, no real need for stealth or tactics. Get a decent gun, hit VATS, chain attacks till everyone was dead while taking squat for damage. <_<

Wait until the OP figures out there is no longer a 90% damage reduction during VATS. We'll get a thread on that.

No, I contend the whole game spun out of control because people whinged and complained it was too easy without taking the time to think about and understand the underlying game mechanics, which meant that, in general, the only effective way for the game to become harder is to make bullet sponge enemies.

Ironically, the very same arguments have cropped up again for NV, which just goes to show that people don't bother to learn from the past.

I just recently beat the game with my Legion melee character on very hard and it took me over 20 tries to beat the NCR Veteran Ranger blocking the way to General Oliver. I had to utilize almost all the aid in my inventory and apply Cloud Kiss (Leathal) to my Shiskibob to beat him. My health was also regenerating at 6 hp a second with the Rad Child perk and I still barely survived. I was shocked. I couldnt believe it but it was great. I never had such a hard time before even against the Deathclaw Alpha Male or Super Mutant Overlords. I remember reading somewhere that they level up with you which can be the only explanation. I hope they get even tougher with the next DLC.

The fact that you were pretty much invulnerable in VATS (except against Super Mutant Overlords, Reavers, and Albino Radscorpions) was really the main reason you became like a god.

I would love for it to go back to the way it was in FO3. It's not gonna happen though.

say what kind of character u have , points regenerate relativly fast in a scenario and u will most likely not be able to stay in the middle of 5 enemy's , u shouldn't need GRS , there are other more useful

I do agree that Grim Reaper Spirit should've recovered more points then what it currently is recovering but it was broken in Fallout 3, to the point that it was the auto win perk. You basically pick it and win, "oh there's 3 super mutants, boom headshot, oooh look full AP meter I'll do it again".

Nope, most enemies don't scale with you. It's great.

The reason ranger vets are so difficult is that they have heavy armor and good guns. Going along with that, the change to the armor system (DT as opposed to DR) means that heavily armored enemies became much more threatening and difficult. As they should be.

there is no point to use vats once you hit 30 much less at level 40 where i am. it is gettin ridiculasly easy when i can walk into dead wind cavern with just the unique .45 and desimate all :gun: deathclaw mother only takes 4 shots to kill and the alpha male takes about 6
