Please fix the cowboy repeater and other similar rifles

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:08 pm

The glitch where, when these weapons are equipped, you often can't open the pip-boy menu, put the rifle away, etc... not good.

Also, please fix all the bad mesh work on the landscape, at first I figured it was just a wee issue, but it's literally everywhere you go in the game that you are prevented from going uphill any further when there is no good reason for it. That's just corner cutting...

Agreed on the invisible walls and such, but I don't recall having any problems with the any rifles or the CR in particular.

With the pipboy issue, make sure that you 'verify cache integrity' of the game on the FNV properties menu of Steam. That will hopefully fix the pipboy crash issue (but I think that is more related to the hotkeys issue rather than lever action firearms).

And yes, the only times I've died in this game have been twice from falling off cliffs due to the lever-action tap-dance bug. And been mauled up pretty good a few times as well....

On PC the lever-action weapons are completely broken for many players. Wild West themed game and the signature weapons are broken.

Is this the reloading while crouched thing? I became stuck using a 357 revover. Zooming caused the x-hairs to disapear and hotkeys and pipboy wouldn't work. Same happened with a cowboy repeater (didn't test with lever action shogun). I think it was ok as long as I didn't go into sneak mode or reload while sneaking. I just avoid those guns now :(

Guns weapons turning crap?
Somehow I feel karma has been dealt.

I'm using Guns on my current character and excluding a couple of animation glitches, like when in first person he holds the weapon over the screen, then the game works fine for me.
This was added in the patch right?
Guess I better finish up my character for the time the xbox patch comma knocking.

Also affects Trail Carbine and Hunting Shotgun; any weapon that is reloaded one ammo at a time. You can avoid it most of the time by standing up before reloading, also you can use magical reloading by de- and reselecting the weapon.

Yes this is interesting because I'm on my second play through now (on the new patch) and the Cowboy repeater is one of my favs weapons - and its very broken now.

1.1 supposedly fixed (and I quote) - Fix: Sitting down while looking down a weapon's iron sights leaves player control locked.

I often find that when I crouch with the CR on iron sights and I get stuck in that view. I have to stand up, then change weapon, then cycle back to CR before I can use the iron sight again.

Other times it just seems to buffer up my increasingly panicked quickfire (caused because the gun isn't actually firing when you're telling it to), which culminates in a sudden frantic quick burst of 3 or 4 rounds - pointing off to the side, or in the air, or at the ground (never at the actual target) - as the buffer gets released.

The odd thing about this is the CR seems to be the only weapon I have this problem with, and the problem has definitely only appeared since the last patch. I didn't have this issue in the 70 odd hours of play prior to the new patch, so its definitely been 'introduced'. It's actually putting me off playing at the mo.

They break AMR and I'll be annoyed. That's my favorite gun. I love sneak-criticaling death-claws with incendiary ammunition and watching them run wildly in flaming rage.

I get a weird bug where sometimes VATS will not come up. I need to put the weapon away and take it out again to use VATS, rather stressfull in combat.

I've never experienced the issue with such weapons, of course, this might be because my first character focused more on energy weapons, and for the guns I did use, I tended to shy away from those like that as I don't really like needing to wait until my character loads every bullet one by one before I can start shooting again. But of course the issue needs to be fixed, because as it stands, it's causing much trouble for many. If this were just something like poor balance, I could forgive it, but here, the weapons aren't even working as they're supposed to, and that, I would say, is a problem.

As far as the landscape issue, the problem here is the placement of invisible walls on areas that should have been traversible to keep players from going in those directions. And I don't think it's really a bug, it's not a misguided effort to force players down a specific path. This is supposed to be an open world game here, if a particular path looks like it should be possible to traverse, I should be able to go there. I should not have magical invisible barriers getting in my way. If the designers really feel the need to limit your freedom of movement, they should do so using actual visible barriers, like say... the cliffs and rock faces that the game has so many of, or walls or just anything that looks like it should actually block your path, it's made especially baffling by the fact that Obsidian seems to have made an effort to use actual, physical barriers around the edges of the map, and those are places where I could accept the presence of invisible barriers, because I have no reason to want to go there anyway, and yet, they tried to put real borders around the edges of the map, they just, for some reason, did not always do the same for barriers inside the world map.

I think a lot of the invisible barriers are to do with companion movement mapping. I'm not sure, but some of the paths that would be needed to be taken to move freely across currently inaccessible parts of the map - would be impossible for a companion character to negotiate. So we have a bit of atrade off. NV plays companions and companion tech needs a degree of sensible terrain steering.

And then you need to steer the game too. It's no good having a flat ball park of a map, where you can run anywhere from the start because it's potentially boring - with no direction. We already did that with FO3 - why do it agian?
The primary route NV takes you - also takes you on a journey. Much better than FO3 where instead you could run to most parts of te map - pretty much straight away, and everything will conveniently level up with you. Personally I dislike the old Oblivion style enemy NPS's leveling up with you. Yes you could run everywhere, but that gets mighty tiring because the game and enemy experience always stays the same. I'm at level 3 so I get small bears. I'm now at level 6 and I get big bears.... etc. Time to move on.

Just out of curiosity, for PC players with bugged lever guns...

Do you guys play with keyboard and mouse or Xbox controller?

I play with a controller and use the Brush Gun quite heavily. I also have Cass armed with my hand-me-down Trail Carbine.

The only issues I have post patch are:

Reloading animation infinite loop--this only happens when I don't have enough ammo for a full load (easily fixed by changing ammo type/guns).

I also have an issue where I need to pull the trigger twice to get off the first shot after reloading.

Other than those two minor yet annoying issues, I have no problems with those weapons... I wonder if it might have something to do with control setup?

I just use a standard keyboard and mouse.

I've also had the infinite reloading loop with the CR, but only once (last night actually). I thought the game had locked until I changed weapon - which recovered it.

This doesn't just happen on the PC. Consoles too. Except consoles haven't gotten the patch that supposedly makes this glitch even worse.

Keyboard and mouse, those annoying hand-cramp-inducing controllers are a significant portion of why I stick with PC and won't (not don't, won't) own a console. (And no that's not a dig at console folks, I'm a firm believer in "to each their own"- but I don't like'em myself and won't touch'em.)

I've used both - keyboard/mouse and an emulated 360 controller. The bug is a permanent fixture on anything related to the cowboy perk, except knives, is the best way to put it. And it definitely came into my game after the patch.

(Bitter comment: Perhaps a viral YouTube video might get it fixed).

To report:Before the last patch I did notice a slight delay sometimes with the cowboy repeater, but it was still very usable and I did use it all the time. After the patch, it's become a case of complete GUI freeze upon reloading - doesn't matter if I'm standing or crouching. I have the Steam-download version, and I tried reinstalling the game thinking maybe Steam's updater is terrible & downloading it all at once would work better. That made it so after reload, I was frozen, but I could now at least fire with the mouse button, and firing unfreezes everything. It still svcks...and it also affects .357 handguns.

Also, it affects Boone (maybe all companions for me, but I've only tested Boone). Seriously. If I give Boone the cowboy repeater, he'll fire, reload, and just sit there for a long period, not moving, not doing nothing, then suddenly start firing again etc. It's quite funny. But pre-latest patch this wasn't the case.
