Please help me cure vampirism :(

Post » Sat Nov 19, 2011 12:23 am

Skyrim is my first Elder Scrolls, and I love it already. I had a grand time with it, but then I bumped into a vampire and was infected with vampirism. I didn't mind too much, I didn't realize it would screw up the game so much for me.

First when I read up on what vampirism really is - I found the sound effects when the sun rises annoying - and I realized I had to hurry to cure it. I ran to the innkeeper, asked for rumor, teleported to the guy in Morthal, hurried to the ship in Solitude and killed some random dude there, teleported back and gave him the gem. Awesome. Then he wants me to meet him at dawn. Okay. Except I become a stage 4 vampire the next day. And I couldn't do it faster. So now this guy comes to the circle, then he tries to kill me. And Vampire's Seduction doesn't work, too high level for the dude. So I can't complete the quest. I find these two last things pretty damned stupid - he's here to cure my vampirism, then he attacks me because I'm a vampire. That just pisses me off.

Right, I try to cure it with a potion to remove all diseases after svcking the throat of ~5 people. Doesn't work. Now I'm stuck. I can't transform myself back to normal with the ritual, and apparently I can't cure myself with a potion. What do I do now?

Yes, I could revert to an old save, but I was stupid enough to be too obsessed with grinding leather and ore for my smithing leveling to care about my vampirism and never saved. If I go back to an old save I'll lose a lot. Is there really no alternative way out? Is there a mod that removes vampirism? Anyone?

And before jumping on me being a whiner, I know this is all my fault for not caring (although I do think that the ritual-dude shouldn't be hostile when he's there to remove your vampirism because you're a vampire aaaaarrrggghhh) but I would lose like 2-3 hours of grinding stuff and a LOT of skill points if I have to revert back to my old save.

"It's ruined the game for me."

That's the idea.

Vampirism in the Elder Scrolls is the antithesis to that giggler satisfying, pretentious [censored] that is Twilight, that Vampirism is not this awesome thing to be, it's a curse; a blight upon a being, which grants power while having drastic consequences.

Lycanthropy cures all diseases including Vamprism. So..... you could go that way.

Yeppers, the classic vampire almost instantly dies in sunlight, and are in general shunned out of human society, seen on as demonic creatures. Of course there are many variations, but that's the general idea. + As they genetically mutate quite alot they can't feel alot of positive feelings such as love, their nature is more beastly than humane.

So the mechanics should punish you for becoming one? Right, I can just see the developers talking about it: "Alright, lets add vampirism to the game, but make SURE nobody has fun becoming infected with it!"

BRILLIANT!

Like many people said; being a vampire is supposed to be horrible.

In laymens terms. Deal with it, or Mod it if you can't adapt.

Edit: I remember the first time I got the disease. I nearly had a heart attack when I noticed, and I was frantically running around for a cure disease potion; scariest, and best moment in the game for me. Now I never leave home without atleast 2 cure disease potions.

Haha yeah, such as games not being fun, but still very entertaining and interesnting /points at dark souls
TES is in general a "bright" rp game, while vampirism is one of the few darker elements. It's not like you contract cancer in a game on purpose hoping that it gives you superpowers.

Well would you rather Bethesda actually stick to the Mythological subject material or would you have every female A.I in the game dribbling and sobbing over your character? That's like saying Dragons are too hard because they can fly around and breathe fire on you from the air. Maybe they should piss rainbows and sing with the Wiggles instead.

I seriously can't wrap my head around all these people that agree that Bethesda should have a game mode designed solely for the purpose of punishing players.

Darker =/= unfun to play. I can't believe that I have to spell it out. Vampirism is a curse, yes, and should have disadvantages, but it still should exist solely for the purpose of having fun. You see, games tend to exist for that purpose.

And comparing vampirism to cancer... I seriously laughed out loud. Maybe we should have players able to get cancer in the game, too! Then characters could have a timer before they perma-die!

Yet more brilliance!

Yeah, you guys are morons. Everything in a game should be, at its core, for giving the player a fun time. Vampirism as it is is hardly that. They should have looked into ANY of the vampire mods for oblivion...it seems to me that vampires in skyrim are just a last-minute thing. They threw in the disease, gave it a few powers and said it was good. Which it isn't. Being a vampire should be a significantly different playstyle, not just another thing you deal with.

At the moment its like "yeah, i'm a dual wielding restoration based warrior. Oh yeah, and I'm a vampire."

It should be "Yeah, i'm a vampire dual wielding warrior. Oh yeah, and i use restoration, too."

EDIT: Just a quick note; We're NOT saying we want it to be like Twilight; twilight vampires are god-mode sues. If you want to play as a twilight vampire, all you have to do is type ~tgm and you're set. Maybe set your combat skills to 10000 with the console, too.

We just want a character type that gains power in exchange for having to feed regularly and not going out in the day. Losing the day is a HUGE sacrifice, and worth a comparatively large amount of skill increases.

I can't wrap my head around how people agree with the game not having any sort of disease. It's like expecting death to be rewarding.

I'll say it again, vampirism isn't a disease, it's a playstyle change, just like lycanthropy. Sure it effects you initially as a disease, but diseases dont have benefits. Diseases are essentially interesting environmental poisons. Vampirism is entirely different.

And if vampirism followed the same mechanics as typical disease, your argument wouldn't be so pathetically flimsy.

If that's really what you think, then I take comfort in the fact that you will never be a game designer.

They didnt. Being a vampire has always been a challenge, though normally they gave you ways of dealing with being full vampire. This time the charming abilities are a little weak IMO.

Just because a disease is scripted differently and is different at nature doesn't mean they aren't different-worldly. Vampirism is a disease, not a blessing.
