Please HELP ! GECK on my PIPBOY

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 7:20 am

I recently downloaded the G.E.C.K. and moved the file to the proper place, and now it appears on my pipboy but I can do nothing with it. What gives?

I think you'll have to elaborate on your issue. A lot.

I downloaded the GECK file for NV then followed the forums intructions on installation as per the GECK forum thread sticky: "how to install the GECK"...moved GECK file to program files/steam/steamapps/common

My System is as follows

ASUS M3A78-CM American Megatrend bios. ver. 1203
AMD X4 940 @ 3.587 GHz
4GB DDR2 @ 900 MHz
ATI 4870 @ 790MHz/950MHz w/ Latest Drivers installed
Win. 7 64 HP

Running FalloutNV Ver. 1.2

If you need more info. like that big old readout of drivers and such then let me know... I am at a loss

I'm confused.

The GECK is an editing program for the game. You run the Geck.exe file, open up the master files (ESMs) you want to base your changes on and, when it finishes loading, you can make changes.

The GECK has no appearance in the game and nothing to do with the Pip-boy.

Are you having trouble with a mod you created? If so, there is a specific forum for mods and another for GECK technical information.

There is a GECK in the game, but it shouldn't appear in New Vegas. It's a quest item in Fallout 3.

What? I'm gonna join in with the chorus... What are you talking about? The GECK software development app used to make/modify the game does not create items in the Pipboy.

This. ^^^^^^

It's a totally separate program. The only interaction between editor and game, is in the creation and editing of mods. It has no way to affect the game directly.

Either you've downloaded something else entirely, or I smell shenanigans.

BTW everyone there were no shenanigans....This is how it all went down...I did not extract the GECK file simply moved the whole file to steamapps left it there and then launched the game..I was thinking that the GECK was a self extracted file...I got into the game and started playing looked into the PIPBOY and there it was in MISC. . Try it for yourselves if you think its a bunch of shenanigans

I tried it, just as you said. Dropped the unextracted files directly into the Steamapps folder; I also tried Common and FalloutNV folders.

Not once did a Geck turn up in any of my Pipboy menus.

Let me save you the trouble. As has been said repeatedly, it is utterly impossible for the GECK software to spontaneously show up as an ingame item.
As for having a GECK in your Pipboy:
