Please help a noob warrior!

I made my second char today (yay) 2 handed great sword wielder but I ran into some major problem, I got it to level 7 and I play the game on apprentice difficulty (pretty nob I know). So join the companion in White Run thinking they gonna give me something easy to do and my first mission was to kill a falmer boss and I was like no way but I went and did it anyway so my follower Ms Lydia ended up dying as predicted and the Falmer did some major damage on me but I manage to kill the Falmer boss anyway with lots of potion and some arrow cause I can't beat it one on one so I got do a little hit and run. So my question is,

1. How come they gave me such hard quest for my level and does it mean that the quest that come after are going to harder?
2. Also is there a way to increase the swinging speed of 2 handed weapon?
3. I haven't really started on the Main quest involving Dragonborn yet but I had been summon by the Grey Beards, however I recently come to know that there are 2 different way to progress the main quest and it got something to do with the Blades and the Grey Beards would turn against you if you do something which I'm not sure what so can anyone gives me a heads up on that?
4. I don't want to do the Civil War quest until probably when I finish the main quest so for now is there any quests line that I could do so that aren't too out of my reach ?

Hope you enjoy your experience, and for starters, dont worry about difficulty. With more practice, you'll soon be a master at arms. For, now though, getting the hang of things is the best thing possible.

To answer

1)The quest they give you might be hard because of a couple of reasons. Your gear may be obsolete, and you may want to enchant things, it makes fighting alot easier. Make sure you spent your perks once you level up. They can be life savers. Also, the enemies will always be around your level, so it will be challenging. But the random generator may give you a couple of very hard enemies some times. Just trust in your abilities and give it your best. If you find you cannot beat them. Try practicing elsewhere, and come back later. There is no immediate rush.
2)For 2 handers the general rule is. Swords are faster than axes, and axes are faster than hammers.
3)I'm not aware of what your hinting at unfortunately, and no spoilers can be revealed in this thread, so i can't help you with that. I'd say, follow the quest, and do what seems best to you. Don't worry too much about making a mistake. If there is some kind of decision, you'll know or have an idea, of what the consequences will be.
4)If you don't want involvement in the civil war quest, there are still literally thousands of others to do. If you mean what is close to whiterun, you can do quite a bit. Talk to the citizens, most will have things for you to do. If you want to go a tad further. Check out other cities. Riften, winterhold, markarth, etc. All will have a great deal of things to keep you busy. Not to mention the numerous groups you can join.

Hope this helped you, even if just a tad.
Also hope you continue to enjoy your warrior
Good luck!

You need to use this thing, right here -> . :ermm:

1. as the "Thane" stated above, use your perks (wisely!). The falmer are a pretty though enemy at low lvls so that's also probasbly the reason why and adding a "slow" weapon class like 2-hand it gets a little worse. (Not a bad choice ofc, but it will prove challenging to fight some enemies in the beginning with such a slow moving weapon.

2. Might be some perks that can make some changes to speed. There are lots of damage boosting perks, though so you'll eventually deal more dmg (obviously) by not just choosing them, but upgrading your weapon(s).

3. No one will turn against you. You'll just get some choices of who to speak with, but it doesn't change anything. Do whatever you want. (I've done the MQ 2 times in different ways, no difference)

4. You should continue with the companions questline or just do some sidequests 'till your done with your MQ :)
