OH, please tell me we can swim...

I'm looking at this screenshot, and I have the sudden urge to jump in the water and swim out to it.

Please tell me that this is totally possible.

If that leviathan is still alive, can we blow up the boat/somehow release it back into the wild (for more chaos of course) but also in a sort of save the whales, environmental PETA kind of way?

Good question, Rindill. Water is commonly used as a wall against player-freedom, and in that is a better choice than straight up barricades or - heaven forbid - invisible barriers. However the way water refraction can ruin the aim of a shooter and allow silent sub-surface movement is an important aspect of a stealth action game. I hope we'll be able to swim. It might also be a good way to escape an out of control rat swarm. We might also hope that the leviathan whales are not the only bizarre marine entities written into the world of Dishonored.

You can possess a fish (as well as a rat) and there are water paths through the levels as well as over-rooftop and other routes. So yeah, I think swimming is on the cards.

It would be interesting if a mission took place in a castle built at a cliff edge, and the only way of exfiltration is to jump into the water off the roof. Or something like this.

Awesome. So what happens if I go the boat. Free the whale, then possess a fish and purposefully get swallowed by the whale? Do I get to explore it's insides?

Why don't you possess the whale and kill some ships?

A more important question: Would you want to explore a whale's insides?

I see, but that brings me to a thought. An intelligence gathering mission, which could not be done by a human, like possessing a fish and swimming down the see to recover some intel from a wrecked ship, or just swimming past the guards and stuff, you know. I imagine you can possess for only a limited amout of time, but if the mission is centered around completing it as a possessed creature, you might need to find a secure place and put yourself into a deep meditation, which would allow you to control the creature through a lengthy amount of time.

Some kind of Pinocchio-story where you have to find an important person like Gepetto inside a wale. Why not? ;)

Having the ability to swim would be really useful in that scenario! :D

You literally possess others. When you stop you pour out of one of their orifices.

Instead, we possess a guard, taking advantage of Dishonored’s curious form of possession, in which your body physically enters your host, and can pour out of it, through whatever orifice, in its new location. This will traumatise the host – the guard doubles up, vomiting, as we leave him.

Which means if the protagonist can possess fish, when he stops he'll be disgorged into the water the fish swims in. Ergo, the protagonist should be able to swim... or it'd be suicide. :o

Suicide by de-possessing a fish in water <-- most creative way to kill oneself ever.

In fact, I'm sure Dishonored will have a plethora of interesting ways to kill oneself.

Recently read a game-informer article and you can possess humans, but they must be unaware of you. Can possess animals at any time. Also, the waters are supposed to be heavily monster-infested so good luck swimming in them.

The Graphics seem a tad bad is this because it's still in development or are they going to be improved on release day?

From what I understand, possession is physical. your whole body is involved in the process it's not you sitting in a corner controlling someone or something it's you inside of them.

The fact that mobility is a factor that has been discussed on frequently should have been a dead give away. I'd be more curious to see if there will be Brink style free running or maybe Mirror's Edge style free running. Probably not, but they're still banging out the details.

Water can be really useful as a stealth tactic for sneaking up on people.

Why don't you possess the whale and kill some ships?

 I think the whales are there for flavour (story flavour :nono:) more than anything else. An interviewer did ask the devs if you could possess a whale and they said that, yes, you can, but you'd have to get close enough first. I don't think they'll let you get close enough. Which I'm okay with. Unless it adds something special to the game, why have it? I'd want possessing a whale to be something special. Destroying ships for the hell of it? Meh.

:lmao: I've never thought of a game in these terms.

Something to add to the wiki...
