[REQ] FO:NV Plugin merge tool

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:28 am

Morrowind and Oblivion had the ability to combine plugins within the toolset. FO3 didn't, so a tool was created to do precisely that.

I'd like to see a tool that allows you to combine FO:NV plugins.

I strongly support your initiative.
With around 50-60 mods, it urges to merge some to free space and to make reinstall easier.

Up !!!

Some answers pleeeaaaase :-o

I looked at FNVEdit and read the manual. From my understanding, it creates a merged patch. However, it requires all the original plugins as masters. That isn't really combining the plugins.

I'm sure actual combining is possible given the community bug fix project, and separate people working on large projects like Project Nevada.

My primary goal at the moment is to combine even more fixes with the community bug fix project for personal use, but I'm sure there are tons of modders who need the ability to merge plugins.

Would be nice if the author of TESIV Gecko would do the same for Vegas, I really miss that utility, very handy for condensing plugins.

You can use it to combine/merge plugins. I have done it by following the manual. section 6.4 page 69.

You're right. It isn't simple, quick or intuitive, but it can be done.

After you do it a couple of times it isn't too hard,

I've been playing FONV on the XBOX and haven't been paying attention to the PC (it is much more comfortable sitting in the recliner :) ). Anyways, I do have the Steam version of FONV, so I'll fire it up and see what is different. Hopefully, just some minor tweaks are needed.

It looks promising. I can open a mod created in the GECK with no problems. However, opening FalloutNV.esm fails with a decompression error on one of the records - LAND record 00150FC0. Since this error is thrown by the Java runtime, there isn't anything that I can do about it (the error says the compressed data is incorrect). If I display the record in the GECK (Wilderness -6,26), it is completely empty. So I think I'm going to just discard the subrecord data in this case (there will be an error dialog so you know this occurred).

Awesome...FONVEdit is great for a lot of things, I use it all the time... but this will facilitate merging simple plugins with ease (I hope!)
Can't wait , thanks for looking into it. ;)

I merged a couple of small plugins and looked at them in the GECK without any problems. So I loaded the merged plugin in the game and was able to equip weapons and apparel from the plugin. So it appears to be working. I have uploaded the initial version of FNVPlugin to http://sites.google.com/site/ronsworkspace/GameUtilities/fallout3 if you want to give it a try. Make sure you have backups for your files since there has not been extensive testing done yet.
