Portable Tent & Campfire

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 5:34 am

This gets my vote as my most anticipated mod. I want a small tent I can drop anywhere and a campfire to cook on.

This is something I am also very, very eager to see. We need a portable chest, bedroll, tent and campfire.

I have plans to make this already, have just been waiting on the Construction Kit. :) I am sure there are a few others who will make such a thing also.

Yes. It seems as though Bethesda was just a few steps away from implenting so many other things but they decided against it and instead provided the materials we need to make it happen. I mean, why else would they give us a firewood texture and firewood mesh if they didn't have a plan for starting campfires? Bethesda has provided a lot of meshes, textures and game mechanics that really act as a canvas rather than a finished product( Not starting an opinion war, and this is not a general statement on my feelings for the game). It's hard to describe what I'm trying to say but basically Bethesda gave us a canvas and a lot of tools to start working on the canvas.

That's the polite way to say it.

The other way is to say Bethesda put in a lot of unfinished stuff to let the modders fix for free.

Quite true actually. They did leave us a lot of resources :D Can′t wait to get my hands on the Creation Kit to create my own personal part of this picture ;)

Riiight, because a tent, chest and campfire fits in ones pocket.

About as well as 5 greatswords, a couple shields, bunch of scavenged armor sets, and a bunch of miscellaneous food/ingredients does. Don't even try to make an argument for realism when it comes to this game.

Indeed, we'll be able to chop our own wood for a campfire. :D

Yes, hundred percent needed. I'd go further and say that its an absolute need for my Mesogea project. A huge world needs long distance travel and a good deal of realism, being able to pitch camp etc.

Well said.

I made a request for this type of mod in the mod request thread. There are tent mods for Ob, FO3 and NV and I loved them.

And there are tents in game so I can't wait to see a mod for a portable one.

Apparently you've never heard of backpacks... By the way, a Tent, Chest and "campfire" require less space than full sets of armor and 50 iron ingots. :P

Put a pack on a horse, and maybe I'll bother to buy one. So far, horses are completely useless in the game.

I don't know about completely useless - they are far more useful to me than most followers. At least with a horse I can overload myself with loot, jump on it and FT to sell off - with a follower, if they're not stepping in front of me and taking hit from me or getting killed all the time because of their feeble skills, at the very least, I can offload some loot onto them but that's about where their usefulness ends. Horse FTW.

And ya, a backpack would be necessary - and if you own a horse, they should have a more robust system so you can store into saddle bags. Not so much a fan of the portable storage part in as much as I could certainly see that function being integrated into the Horse feature.

I just had to sign in to give my +1 for a portable campsite.
Loved the mod for Oblivion, and it is even more suitable for Skyrim.
I am holding off on a Ranger character until this mod is released ( I would just screw it up if I tried to mod this)

It will make me a happy camper.

I made the first portable bedroll for OB and its something Ill probably tackle in this game too. Maybe... Not much point for me personally since hp regens naturally now.

People, this is why they are called MODIFICATIONS to the game...
Realism is irrelevant.

+1 for this idea.

Question:
Anyone know if accumulating snow would be easy to implement on the tent? I know we don't have the CK yet, just wondering.
Also, dynamic campfire would be cool, let it die down slowly to embers if you don't add wood or stoke it. (Use key to stoke, gather wood from trees or stumps?)

Maybe a texture swap based on your location? I think anything more than that and it's over complicating it. And even that seems over the top.

Oh and the stoking the fire idea sounds like a good immersion feature, definitely.

I would really like this mod too. It is the thing I have missed the most, given the vast landscape. I can't believe Bethesda didn't put it in, it is a real shame. Then again, it will probably be the first DLC or something. *sigh*
