[REQIDEA] Posed Mannequins.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:20 pm

Like the title says. You know how in the load screens theres that dual wielding blood soaked orc that just screams badass or the imperial soldier who stands regally, or the Thalmor with his white hair showing from under his hood? Imagine having those as mannequins. Being able to place your favorite gear on them.

This would be easy to conceive, difficult to implement. First, you'd need pose mods for NPCs with just the poses everybody wants, that could hold them indefinitely in place. That would be tough, because people have their own ideas about the poses they want, and I've yet to see any that could provide an indefinite pose hold. But I don't know how those were done in the last game, and it's probably something that could be done.

Then, you'd need mannequins that form separate races. Not having any CK at this point, I have no idea how mannequins are configred in Skyrim. In Oblivion, they were added on by modders as separate races--initially wooden and marble, later with other ideas.

Finally, you'd apply the pose to a mannequin. So really, two separate mods.

I had mannequins in oblivion which had the races from the game (argonians, red guard, woodelf and so on). It was possible to say "toggle shield raised" or something else ( o my good, i used this mod a long time and now playing skyrim i can not remember the right commands... to old... :ermm: ). And than the Mannequin takes the wanted position.

Dat's my mod! (Read my sig.) But TheXenophobe doesn't want two or three standard poses. He wants something a lot more elaborate, which would be hard to do without someone first creating a limited series of poses everybody can agree upon that would be made into a mod, then used as a master (or better still, integrated with) something like Skin-toned Mannequins if remade for Skyrim. It would require a lot of additional menus and scripts; not impossible. Getting a small group of poses might actually prove the toughest part, because everybody would say, "Wonderful! Only I really, really think adding fifteen poses would be even better..." and creeping feature-itis would set it.

From what I understand mannequins are a type on NPC, they even respond to console commands like sixchange and setrace (warning, yes you can make a female Brenton mannequin but in any case their head never changes, although their body does) so going by the example of the groovemotron (or whatever it was called that posed NPCs in Fallout) it'll be done sooner or later.

http://i.imgur.com/hMkNV.jpg (armor wont show, but whatever [and in this case, his bum in stuck in the wall]).

http://i.imgur.com/aAsdU.jpg (it can be seen in upper floor and through the wall, not recommended as collision mesh makes it hard to walk in house).

Warning, leaving and reentering the room will often reset the animation (which can sometimes be good to prevent the stiff look), and in most cases cause the other mannequins in the house to convert into the one you set so save before having fun.

How awkward - I am an idiot  . Okay, in future I will always read signatures...
P.S.:Your mod was in my list for the absolutely important mods.

Thank you. The basic posed positions were already there in Oblivion, though, so Reznod (who first wrote the scripts for his own wooden and marble mannequins, years before) only hdd to call them up. What's being asked for here requires poses that aren't in the vanilla. Now--it can be done, since I found that by using a combination of an external pose mod and my mannequins, they'd sometimes assume positions outside the vanilla Oblivion ones. For example:

But they wouldn't maintain these once I left and returned. So to work permanantly, the pose mod would have to be accessed for scripting purposes--as I wrote above, either as a parent mod, or by loading it internally.

They are in the vanilla. You can pull things from the load screens and suplant them in the game. Just look at things like Collector's edition in X house mods. they add the alduin statue you see during the first load screen. All I want is to pull the character poses from the load screens and place them as mannequins. I don't want a bazillion poses.

Do you mean they're in the vanilla game, or they're in another mod? Because "Collector's edition in X house mods" is not something I'm familiar with.

He suplants the alduin statue from the opening load screen upon starting a newgame into the player home. The poses I had in mind are from the load screens. Like this one,

or this one

My idea was, have those as mannequins. It seems simpler than what you were suggesting, as it would only be using in game assets.

Although I will be trying to add a knightly pose to mannequins at some point. and set their hands as a sword rack so you get something like this.

I see what you mean. They're attractive poses. Official load screen images, though, aren't always from within the game, but posed outside from models mocked up among the artists. Have you actually seen those poses within the game, while playing, as opposed to in load screens? Because that does make a difference. :)

so far only the dunmer. But I have seen people pulling the female imperial from the load screen in another thread and using that armor mesh instead of the vanilla one (apparently they are slightly different) and most of my mods affect the gear in the load screen as well. So it has to interface with the data directory, so it should a part of the game directory...

The armor meshes and textures could be in the game without the pose, though. Anyway, this is all moot. We'll know, one way or the other, after the CK comes out. :)

Just wondering if there was any updated info on this? I agree, it would be epic to have something like fable2's skin toned mannequins for Skyrim. Heck, the basic poses like Renzods original mod would be awesome.
