Possibility of riding dragons with dawnguard?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:11 pm

Okay heres my theory as to why riding dragons is a possibility for dawnguard; in the trailer we see a dragon dive into a frozen lake, lore (correct me if im wrong) suggests that the skyrims volikhar clan of vamps live under frozen lakes, so it kinda looks as if the dragons are helping the dawnguard by possibly attacking these vamps in their lair, suggesting that if you join the dawnguard you might be able to utilize the dragons in some way? Also, from what we see in the trailer it seems as if the supposed benefits of becoming a vamp outweigh the benefits of joining the dawnguard, think about, vamps; transform into a demonic winged beast, possibly use an elder scroll to plunge skyrim into eternal darkness, or dawnguard; get a measly crossbow. It looks like the dawnguard need something a bit more substantial and thats where i think dragons come into the equation, even if they are quest confined.

Hmmm, I wouldn't count on that but we'll have new dragons to fight (the one you saw in the video is one of them).

yeah i dont see it as being a power, like transforming into a werewolf, but we do see the dragon plunge through the ice, which suggests it is not just a random dragon encounter as it is causing enviroment damage.

If they do that, they should also include the option of a follower being able to join you.

I would not mind this but I doubt that dragons are going to be big in this mod. This is a (bad idea for DLC) about vampires and that (for whatever stupid reason) is what the DLC is about. Adding dragon mounts though cool, is unlikely. Unless the Snow Elf has some connection to dragons I guess.

It seems unlikely to me. However, that would be cool. I would rather we didn't ride them, but being able to command them would be cool. Can you imagine Delphine and Esbern's faces?

While i agree with followers and Horseback, I certainly dont like the idea of dragon mounts period. Its just kinda...hokey. Oh well if its included, which i dont see happening in this DLC, I always have the option of not using it

Sure, why not? Everything else I've read about Dawnguard so far seems equally bananas...

I think the mere fact of riding dragons as a sort of fast travel would work

by no means am i saying i would like to ride dragons, just circulating that theory, personally i think its unnatural of the elder scrolls series to create a new mechanic for riding mounts and stuff like that as traditionally the only mechanics its ever used is walking on foot or riding on a ground based mount, and with skyrim, being a werewolf.

I don't think we'll see Dragon Mounts in this DLC, possibly in the last DLC they do or when they finally run out of other ideas to put in game.. or possibly not at all.

but more importantly than mounting dragons... is mounted enemies -.. in OB there were a few who spend enough time dismounting for you to kill them.. and now they implemented mounted combat, i tihkn it'd be great to have imperials/bandits or what not come riding you down... it would certainly add a new dynamic to fighting

I don′t think ridning dragons is such a good idé to be honest. The dragons are poud creatures and riding them seems kinda demeaning to them. And I also think that the world is to small for dragon-riding.

Also, remember why they took levitation out. There's a lot of places the game doesn't want you to go over.

Ahhh i miss levitation ... i remember the time i decided to see how high i could fly -using Grace Of Daring- to see if M'aiq wasn't lying about the visible dragons being high in the air... but only because it seams he doesn't actually lie about anything else.

Finally someone else gets it. According to the lore, the Volkihar live under frozen lakes and wait for unsuspecting victims to grab through the ice ("Living" underneath frozen lakes in water would be incredibly boring/uncomfortable, even for a vampire). Now we know that they actually live in a Castle next to a reasonably large body of water. I'd be willing to bet that there's a series of tunnels underneath the Castle that leads to below the surface of the lake, and that's how the Volkihar travel (Seeing as how they're immune to cold and don't need to breathe). They swim beneath the ice of the frozen lakes/rivers to avoid being burned by the sun, and to avoid the notice of mortals. When they get hungry, they find someone near a frozen river/lake, and grab them. That's likely where the rumors and "lore" of them living underneath frozen lakes and grabbing unsuspecting victims comes from. Noone had ever seen them anywhere else other than in frozen water, which is just how they get around.
Seeing as how the Volkihar can now transform into a Paragon form (Which is a recent change), i'd reckon they're no longer wary of mortals. But the one problem they still have, is the sun. Which Harkon wants to rectify that too, with the Elder Scrolls.

I'd also bet that as a Dawnguard, how you infiltrate their lair is not through the heavily guarded front doors (Gargoyles guard the entire bridge), but through the water tunnels beneath the castle. You possibly need a dragon to break through the ice so you can swim down and into the tunnels...

Dragons are not going to be rideable or even on the Dawnguard's side. The vampire lair is obiously on an island in an ocean. Not in a lake. Plus the vampires don't get the crossbows Dawnguards do.

I don't see how the trailer in any way points to Dragon riding.

Very unlikely to see Dragon mounts.I think at first it might be fun and a great idea but it wont intergrate into the world as good.

I'd like to see dragon mounts but i think any form of flight is highly unlikely for us

I think the dragon diving through the frozen lake is helping clear a path to somewhere...possibly opening the way to the new area in dawnguard
