Possible at all to use a Tv as the screen for an iMac?

Well, most Apple devices actually use mini DisplayPort instead of regular DisplayPort (just like a lot of video cards come with mini HDMI instead of regular HDMI)

Well let's see then.

Okay, how about this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-female-Cable/dp/B0025V2VO0

Could you please make the image a little bit more blurry? :P

I can't be certain because of the above blurriness, but next to your ethernet cable it looks like that's a mini DisplayPort

To the left or right of the ethernet cable?

the left would obviously be a FireWire port :P

The symbol will look like the symbol on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mini_displayport.jpg if it's a mini DisplayPort

And learn to take better pictures ;) Or, alternatively, put your shakey-cam to good use and become a photographer for the national inquirer.

yes, after much googling and wiki'ing, that is indeed a Mini DisplayPort.
So, what does this mean for me? Am I able to somehow make my TV my monitor using this and some other contraption+an HDMI cord?

Actually, that's what that is. It's the same as on the cable.

SimpsonFly already linked to a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so you just need to get that an a standard HDMI cable.

I have many HDMI cables, so that's not a problem. And how's it work, I just..plug the HDMI cord into the adapter and to the TV, then the adapter into my iMac and tune my TV to HDMI 1 and...voila? It just shows up? Or how's that work? I've never done that before (obviously) :P

I'd get the one I linked to, it's cheaper. Some starting as low as $0.98, it seems.

Everything I read about this states it's for laptops etc, this will work on a iMac right? That's not a laptop.

Then why does nobody use it? I am confused, DEFRON. CONFUSED!

There's a DisplayPort (along with two DVI's and an HDMI) on the Sapphire 6870 card I just bought.

OP: Just a random tip... when trying to figure out what your Apple computer has, do a Google search for Apple Support. Then just pick the options that lead to what you've got. In the case of the iMac, it leads to http://support.apple.com/specs/#imac (Mac -> iMac, Intel based -> Specifications). Then just find your model and find the specs you're interested in. :)

(mine is an Early 2008. Has a mini-DVI port. But looking at the other models, it looks like everything from 2009 up has the mini-DisplayPort)

As long as it fits in the port it'll work, and since that is mini-DisplayPort to HDMI, it'll work.

Although I've heard stories about people shoving their USB devices into the Ethernet port, sooo...
