Possible XP glitch? - seen in GetSMART Classes video.

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:58 am

Hey all, new to the forums but I've been following Brink for quite a while. I was watching the GetSMART Classes video again and noticed something that I hope won't work the way I'm thinking it might but it could be an oversight.

So basically they talk about how easy it is to switch classes. The lady then says that if your team does not have enough of one class to complete an objective, a quest opens up to change class... Heres my issue, and hopefully this isnt an oversight and im just paranoid... if you get the 458 xp for doing that quest... Would you not then be able to just switch class back to what you had, therefore creating the same gap of not enough of one class to complete the objective, go pick up the quest again, and switch class for the 458 xp again? They might have already seen this and made it so you can only do that initial quest once per match or something. But why take a chance?

Video - It talks about it at :47 seconds in.

Again, I'm probably paranoid about there being a glitch but if it were my game, I'd want some warning.

There was discussion about this before. Basically some were concerned, somewhere not. No one knows if its going to be a problem.

he only got 200 credits for it. I'm pretty sure your credit thing on the HUD tells you how much expierence you have acumulated thruoghout the whole match

Yeah i noticed that looking at it again. I also searched but didnt find a thread on this so sorry if it has been posted, i couldnt find it....
Im definitely concerned people will do this, its not a big deal because if theyre rank 5 on day one... well theyll have noone else rank 5 to play with haha.

He only gained 200 XP. And I'm not worried. After a whole year of balancing and polishing Brink, along with the beta testers, I'm sure something as silly as this wouldn't slip through Splash Damages sight. If this does become an exploit, they have NECVARS(or something, I forget the name) that can instantly update a problem.

i bet they have some kind of limitation for this, and i think the xp is dynamic, i think that having a "change to medic" objective for a while the xp reward for it goes higher and higher. and the first who takes it will get the xp reward and the xp reward is set back to 0. would make sense to me at least.

he got the xp because he changed to the needed class for the next objective and there were no others of that class. when the objective needs a certain class and there are none it will show up on the objective wheel as a mission, when some one changes to the class the mission will disappear. you dont just get xp over and over for changing classes.

The amount of coordination it takes to abuse this system and how little you get out of it, makes the idea null. You might be able to get your entire team to be the opposite of what's need but you'll still only be able to do this thrice in a single game. You can easily get more than 600 xp just playing the game normally.

This. It's just like MW2 boosting. Once they did, they still svcked just as badly as if they were a level 5

it says if there are not enough people on a selected class then it will be chosen as an objective to change over. so im thinking you only get XP if you change over when it is an objective.

just a thought. not 100% on this

I bet once they switch to the proper class, they are locked into it as they have to proceed into the next objective that required it.

Regardless, I've preached and barked about this enough, if someone in your team is just farming for exp and not doing work, your team will fall. You will have one less medic, engineer, soldier or operation class out there busting their ass.

If the other side has a person just farming exp and not doing their job to help the team, then I consider that a win on my part due to the fact that I have one less threat to deal with.

Dont worry man, cuz when someone gets to rank 5 by doing crap like this, theyll be playing with people who got to rank 5 by being good at the game, and they will kick that someones ass! :)

Unless the person is doing this at the starting point command post, there is no way to touch him due to the indestructible turrets placed at the home spawn point.
If the person is doing this at the middle of the map command post, then first I'd laugh really hard, then I'd place mines surrounding him. Then fire a couple shots outside to cause him to move and check it out. Then boom.

If he somehow survives the explosion and is incapacitated, then I proceed to teabag and then get the command post back. Having him watch as I do all this, then kill him.
Of course, I'd mine/watch the open parts of the command posts in cause someone walks in.
