It's possible but if you plan on facing Dragons, you will probably want to do the main quest straight until you get a very vital Dragon shout, otherwise it might be a pain. Personally, I did this but I delayed the main quest for quite a while and when I did engage in the main quest (Meaning Dragons could now spawn), I went straight through it with no side focus. Once I obtained the Dragon shout which I shall not name, ranged weaponry didn't seem all that necessary.

Yes.

My warhammer wielding Nord does well.
Only uses warhammer, heavy armor and restoration.

The perk in restoration that "heals" your stamina at the same time than health is really usefull for that.

My character doesn't use ranged weapon attacks at all. I carry a bow just in case, but it's collecting dust in my inventory.

Stealthy dual wielder with no bow nor magic here. Lvl 35 halfway main quest medium difficulty.
Unlikely most suggestions here for thieves/assassins I really don't think I'll enjoy killing everything from distance unseen.
Dragons (frost till now) are challenging but doable...as dragons should be, earlier fire spitters were no problem as I'm dark elf, and I don't have that shout yet.

Well, the main reason I brought up that shout that shall not be named is because I was contemplating on whether or not I should spend perk points in archery to deal with dragons. While testing camera settings changes, I was attacked by a dragon in a particular spot. I was messing around with archery, testing it out with my newly configured camera settings, and then afterwards I was like, "Okay, now let me switch to my normal setup and see how I would deal with this."

I whipped out my sword and board and waited for the Dragon to land. It never did. That's when I realized... hmm... dragon's don't need to land if they don't want to. Granted I never did run into this issue while doing the main quest until I got the shout that shall not be named, but the possibility was always in the back of my head. A dragon being smart and choosing not to land. o.o ...

So that's my story. o.o ...

You don't need any special shouts or whatever to get rid of dragons, as long as there's a space enough for the dragon to land, it will land. Then go up to him and slice him up for sushi. though i've only done this with a dual wielding character

my nord paladin has never used any ranged attacks, and still doesn't have the shout yet, I do have to heal a bit when the dragon is in the air, but once it lands, I'm good :)

eventually if you want to fight things youll need ranged attacks... (personally i would consider shouts to be ranged attacks)... but by all means you could make a character devoid of ranged attacks and just spend time running away from and avoiding archers, dragons, and frost mages.
if you want to progress through the storylines your gonna use ranged. the three quest lines that i have finished all made me use a ranged attack of some sort.. made me.. as in had to.
although if your just referring to bows... than probably.

You can. It's considerably tougher, especially against dragons, but it can be done. If you need ranged fighting for your character you can of course acquire a ranged-fighter follower to fit the bill.

Judging by the contents of your post I highly doubt this or you're taking several liberties when using the phrase "made me". You don't need ranged attacks to deal with archers nor frost mages. Dragons are a bit iffy, but they seem to land more often than not, and once you get a shout that shall not be named, it's no longer an issue.

possible... yep. harder than heck to get dragons to come down to you? you betcha. Better yet, dodge the snapping of their teeth and still keep them on the ground. I'm loving it. It doesn't make it easy.

Every time I play my warrior only character I wonder shouldn't I just get her a bow and cave in... because I think of the words of the guards all over Skyrim, "Fall to me, Dragon."

My character has zero ranged attacks and I had no trouble with dragons or anything else.

Do not invest in Archery or Spells JUST to kill Dragons. They are inconsequential to the game and as soon as you get the Shout to make them land, it is a moot point entirely. You would be gimping yourself if you put just a "little" into Archery. You either go full bore, or you are not very effective.

I Have a Nord warrior that only uses 2 handers and never uses a bow. It is possible.

I never had issues with dragons landing they always did eventually and it only took them landing once or twice for my sword to hew them to ribbons.

Dragons, super-mages, and certain Draugr Deathlords will be a pain without a long-distance option, but it's doable. It's something I'm planning to do with one of my next characters.

Yes, you can make a character without ranged attack and it would work. You might take a lot of damage waiting for some dragons to come down...maybe you'd have to leave the area- I've read some dragons never come down, dont know if that's true or not. Some dragons have lost me...so I think you could lose them too.
My player started as a melee axe guy and I could still do that 99.95 percent of the time. I like the bow most of the time now though.

I'm intending on playing a psychotic Nord wielding a two-handed battleaxe (or is that Waraxe? I can never remember), and no ranged.

Man, I wish I could put pictures online. I was surprised I made a character look as evil as my Dunmer Spellshadow. = D

it is possible, but dragons that attack in cities/villages are maybe going to make you a lonely, little dragonborn

heck... i remember doing a playthrough with mainquest with a stealth illusionist killing only with daggerbackstabs. as he was around... lvl 25 i could say r.i.p to winterhold and rorikstead. dead towns.

well of course it depends on the character you're playing. If you are hiding waiting to backstab, yeah the dragon probably won't land, but I found that if I was out in the open as pretty much a straight melee player, the dragon landed every time in pretty short order too.

Dragons don't just fly around constantly, at least not in my game. I have a pure Warrior with no Archery and he gets dragon to land within a minute of engaging. And even then, I have shouts that can hit the dragon. Plus the very special dragonshout of the MQ.

So yes, it's very possible.

My first two characters are both dual wielding, one handed swords, rush in and clobber your butt women hahahaha! Yea, I maybe have one or two points in archery and if I need to boost it up, I wear a ring or necklace. Plus, with those two toons, I usually travel with a companion, who can shoot arrows at dragons. I just wait until they land and then have at them. LOL

And yes, I also found that the dragon always lands sooner or later, once it engages in a fight with you.

It can be done: two of my three characters have no ranged attack, and the one that does never did the MQ. The shout in question is certainly useful, but not vital: in general a dragon will land if there's a big open space to do it in. However, until their health is down to something like 20% they're also likely to take off again. My first character just relied on this and sword/shield, and killed over thirty dragons.
