Possibly 60 hours down the drain

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:07 am

Firstly Im going to post this up in the bug section but I thought I would post my problem up here and see what you guys think, By the way im playing the xbox 360 version, Anyway heres my story.

Ive been playing the game since it first came out in england, Im 62 hours into the game and on my first playthrough (Im sure you can guess I love exploring) & level 30, Anyways I thought I must have found most locations by now, and whilst thinking that I came accross the town named 'westside', I enter and start rooting around, I then notice the underground place called 'Thorn' so I enter and WOW what a cool place & I love betting on the fights.

I started doing missions for that woman (collecting eggs), I had got the fire gecko eggs and returned to thorn. I gave the woman the eggs then decided to enter the fight pit against 3 death claws, I killed them no problem but just before the fight began I saved the game (incase I lost the fight), Then I was waiting for that gate to open on the side bit that leads back upto the woman im doing missions for. The gate never unlocked for me it just says 'Key Required' So im stuck in the pit (even waited 10 minutes) I have had fights in the pit before and never had problems with that gate staying locked. I have tried reloading my save just before the fight but the gate stays locked. The only other save I have is the Auto save which saved just after I entered 'thorn', So I loaded that one instead and left 'thorn' & went to 'westside' & my game went funny and crashed everytime I tried, I reloaded the save game and went to the woman to give her the fire gecko eggs and halfway through the conversation the game stops and wont let me select any dialog so im stuck in conversation but no buttons work (apart from x button which drops all my gear in her face, yes thats right my guns n stuff appear where her face is). So both of my save files seem to mess us shortly after I reloaded.

Now with me being so far into the game its not as simple as "start again". So what do you guys think.

Keep at least 10.

According to the Wiki, there are many http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Thorn (read through the bugs section). I chose to avoid that location altogether until the bugs are fixed. If they don't get fixed, I won't go there.

I keep 5 per playthrough, I cycle three at any save and keep the other two for important moments in story.

Im liking the "you only have 2 saves" lol, Yeah it seems I need make more saves (although I shouldn't have too).

Anyways I believe I have sorted the problem and I can now relax. What I did was leave Thorn and very quickly fast traveled to the Gun runners since then I have been playing an hour and its been fine. I made a few more saves & went back to thorn, Everything has been working fine & I even carried on with the missions collecting eggs. I should have enough back up that if it does keep crashing at a certain point I can reload out of that area.

Out of interest @ Baron bilbo baggins, How come you gave me a link to an xbox 360 forum? Its not the console its the game.

Thanks for peoples replys and I will have a read through the reported faults reguarding thorn.

Glad you didn't lose your game, but I'm hoping you started making a lot more saves now.

This game is crazy unstable, buggy and everything can be smooth sailing til you get locked in (or out) of something randomly (it's a screwy bug that just happens sometimes).

The general rule of thumb is for rpgs your save folder should be bigger then your porm folder.

I actually keep my save folder inside my porm folder, just to emphasize its importance.

Lol just plain lol.
I have to agree with the idea though. Have around 5-10 saves at all times, otherwise you are going to be in for some anger management.

And yeah I generally try my best to stay in Thorn as minimal as possible. Save multiple times, give her the eggs, and run the hell out.

I got a little nervous when I saved the 1st time and it was labeled 1/1000. I wasn't sure 1000 would be enough...

I lost 3 hours of gameplay last night (wiped out Vault 3 and finished omerta quest line). and when I went to turn in a bounty in Mccarren, Ed-e got into a fire fight with the NCR and I decided to reload....2 save were corrupted (X-box 360). I heard it may have something to do with the Weapon mods I bought and installed from Gunrunners.

At least it was after I wiped out the Quarry filled with Deathclaws.

I am running about 35 saves per character.
In Fallout 3 averaged ~50 saves per character
In Oblivion about 100 saves per character

Heh, I had the same thought here after my experiences with Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Fortunately, if you archive off the old save files, that number goes down so you can add more saves. (I started housecleaning when I hit 500 saves. Now I only have 200 saves in my folder with the rest sitting in 7Zip files.)

I only have 2 saves (as well as the autosave and quicksave) per character (so far I only have 1 character in new vegas). This has been the way I have done things since the original Fallout. I figure that if something goes catastrophically wrong, I'll just start again and play a completely different character. That said, I have never been forced to do this - 2 saves has always been sufficient.

LMAO!!!

I am already thru my SECOND set of 100 saves......About to start my third......Level 30....almost 100 Places found.....still have not even BEGUN to get the chip from benny yet. I always do as many side quests as possible and find as many places as possible before I really get into the story.....and the ONLY way to accomplish that is to do as stated above.....SAVE ALL THE TIME AND EVERYWHERE.
