Post Civil War

So after you finish the Civil War quest you are told to finish off any remaining encampments (well at least Tullius tells you too haven't played Stormcloaks) yet most of the named Commanders remain essential and thus can not be killed. Isn't this werid that they are still considered essential even after their quest lines are done. Was their a reason for leaving them as essential or was Bethesda just too lazy to make them killable after the Civil War quest line is over?

I truly have no idea. I have been to every Stormcloak camp and the commanding officer just stands in his tent and does nothing. Shame too, really want his armor. :sadvaultboy:

I normally kill all their subordinates and leave the commander to rot knowing that he has failed in every sense of the word.

I use unrelenting force and try to get him as far away from the camp as I can.

You can get Legate Rikke to fight one of the stormcloak officers. They're both essential, so you can start a never ending battle between them...

The Hjaalmarch Stormcloak camp is just south of the Pale Imperial camp. Just pick a fight with the Stormcloaks when Rikke is at the Pale camp, then get them to chase you towards the Imperials. Sit back and watch from a safe distance as the two armies grind each other down until only the essentials remain.

It is odd that Tullius AND Ulfric both tell you to wipe out the remaining opposition forces, when this is actually impossible

I wouldn't say they got lazy, I'd just say they didn't think of it. Also, Ulfric tells you the same thing

I hope this is an oversight or is tied in to an upcoming DLC. Sad that they are essential really.

I have never finished the civil war stuff. I'm working on it. I did go on a werewolf rampage once and killed a whole military camp. That officer was the guy I couldn't kill.

I suspect that Bethesda has a DLC that will involve the armies to join forces and the commanders are needed lined up for us?It's the most likely answer IMO.

I don't believe Bethesda would foul up quite this noticeably unless it was tied in to a greater plan of theirs.

No evidence of such a plan as yet, however...
