post RAGE impressions

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:45 pm

Just finished RAGE, took me 27 hours doing all the side quests but I didn't do much racing or minigames by the time I got to Subway Town. Now it is uninstalled because i want my 20 GB's back.

The ending svcked, seriously...I thought the end battle was leading up to an actual interesting or worthwhile end battle but nope, didn't happen.

For a 20 GB game I expected more variety of areas than a few hubs and reusing the same instances for missions. It got more linear towards the last part of the game which was disappointing.

Lastly, what did the the word RAGE really have to do with the story or the gameplay? I failed to see any real meaningful or in-your-face connection between the game and the title.

Can't say that I will be revisiting it for DLC because I won't.

That's a shame because there is still a lot of fun in the game that you haven't experienced yet, but I gotta respect your decision all the same.

You're right about the ending though.

I'm not saying the whole game svcked, but the overall experience didn't really impress me...not enough to get me to shell out more money for DLC.

Overall superb graphics, sound and execution in general, would have liked a bit more random small locations to explore non-story related and I had some niggles with aiming with the sniper ie had a clear shot but wasn't hitting the target, not sure if that was intentionally or not, loved the driving and I don't play driving games at all normally. Overall a 8.5 to 9 outta 10. I mentioned this yesterday but quarter of the game was left out apparently due to disk space allowance ie probably another one needed, but that would have made the game better having more to do in it. The enemy AI was very impressive! The ending may have disapppointed but I didn't mind it really, sometimes games are about your journey rather than just a visually stunning ending, but it would have been nice to have a WOW factor 10 ending but as I said I wasn't to bothered and it probably sets it up for the second game anyway. Overall I really enjoyed the game, the combat and the driving. Good job id :celebration:

Really fun. enemy AI is the best I have seen, the graphics look good, love the variety of weapons and ammo. I like all genres of games so I liked the fact that if I got tired of shooting I could race without having to switch to a different game. About the ending at first I was a little disappointed but that quickly turned to anticipation as I am hoping for a lot of DLC to extend the story hopefully
Spoiler
see the season 2 setup of Mutant Bash TV, new hub Gunbarrell, and more
this game has my vote for game of the year. better shooting mechanics than any other FPS this year by far.

To be honest I was expecting more. Graphics were good in my opinon music was cool too but felt I was either playing a racing simulator or being funneled from one place to another. Maybe I missed something I dont know but it felt very arcadey to me.

Well I don't usually post comments of any kind. I've been a gamer for many years.I started playing with the kids in the 90's and never stopped .I'm now soon to be 65 yrs old and still playing .I'm an admitted computer geek and was a PC gamer until a couple years ago when I got an Xbox 360 .I have played so many FPS shooters I've lost count .In my humble opinion this is the best FPS I've ever played.
Bar none including Halo . I have played through the game on all 4 difficulties and enjoyed every minute of it. I've become more of an RPG player since Fallout 3 and New Vegas and of course Oblivion now waiting for Skyrim .I for one would like to say this is the first FPS game that has delivered on all the hipe. It's a 10 out of 10 for me.Yes I know the military type games are great ,but only if your a big time on line player which I'm not.All I can say guys is I'm ready for the additions .The decision to go with 60fps was the right one .Thanks for a wonderful game that has a permanent place in the old guys game library.

It's refreshing to hear some positive comments.

I think you're right on target with your "this is not a military shooter" anolysis too.

FPS Mechanics are the best part of this game. To many games I don`t feel connected to the player in screen. However ID are masters at how the player should react to your input from the keyboard and mouse.

As for what the meaning of Rage is in this game, here is a snippet from the end of the book-

For all those who had lived in fear, who were imprisoned or brutalized—for everyone who hated the
Authority with a rage that seemed to consume their lives—on this day …
… it began.

I felt that was put across quite well in the game but the message is always clearer in a novel.

I finished my first time through Rage last night and I can say I was quite satisfied with the game. Vehicle control was abysmal though, at least compared to Borderlands. Much of the game's limitations seem more to do with the limitations of console hardware although the AI was surprisingly good.

One thing did occur to me while playing. Fallout 3's RPG system and storyline overlayed onto Rage's world have been amazing.
