I installed this, then removed the dll then changed the ini back to default. I had a play session without a crash or performance issues, but that doesn't mean much considering how random crashes have been for me.

This dll fix - Does it mess with my graphics settings in any way? Cause I don't like to downgrade.

It doesn't change your system. It spoofs Fallout into "thinking" you're playing on an older nvidia card, if I understood correctly.

(If it doesn't work for you or you don't like it for whatever reason, you can delete the file and go back to stuttering.)

Drat!!
Installed the newer driver.
Removed the d3d9 jobby.
Loaded Steam and started the game.
Game loaded last save and crashed as soon as i left the bar!!
Tried again and it crashed again.
Thanks for the info.
Glad to see someone is trying. Precious little information coming out from either the manufacturers or Steam!

Worked fine for me in Win XP. The flashing white squares are gone. Finally able to play with HDR+AA now!

can also confirm the new drivers fixing the flashing orbs and black squares, so no more using nvidia inspector to fix it

I've been trying really hard to like this game and the game-play itself seems awesome but the constant crashes have been driving me nuts. Hopefully these new nVidia drivers do the trick. I can't wait to try them out when I get home this afternoon. If they stop the crashing I'll be as happy as a pig in mud.

Since the update im getting a new bug everytime I go to interact with something it sounds like a broken record for a second or two.

My original post:

After installing the 260.99 drivers I went to to the NVIDIA control panel to manage the specific program profile settings for Fallout New Vegas. To my surprise, the NVIDIA Control Panel shows that no Steam-launched games (FNV, L4D 1 &2, Portal, etc.) are listed as being installed on my machine. I can find different profiles for three iterations of Fallout New Vegas, but if the NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't think Fallout New Vegas is installed, how will it ever invoke the profile even if I knew which one to use?

Update:
I found that NVIDIA finally fixed the add feature and I added falloutnv.exe manually and now hopefully it will work. The Fallout 3 settings are as good a place to start experimenting as any.

You can also just use the console command "showEmotions" (w/o quotes) if you have NPC stutter. However, you have to enter this command every time you run the game.

does appear to fix all my stability issues based on a 3 hour play session where I did most everything you can do in the game including a crap ton of zoning. I will iterate that I dropped the dll and restored my ini. I'm running everything max except the water thing wish is on low. Fairly low FPS but it feels pretty smooth and no stuttering. I can mostly feel the FPS in that I run slow. I'm just happy it looks really good (for an old engine) and is stable.

Knock on wood I don't experience anymore crashes. I may try some lower settings just to see if it makes me run faster.

Not sure who is to blame here but the Nvidia driver smacks of a paid for work around for a clunky engine but that's just my informed opinion.
