I have not actually heard any proper sources say that backstabs like from the spys in TF2 are involved. If you could point me to one, than please do so. Plus, these backstabs are class specific not weight specific. So a heavy operative backstabs aswell. Hows that for a blow to your manly manliness?

Not true at all I am thinking about playing as a light medic so when my team needs health or gets downed I can take the fastest routes to get to them and get my team back in the action. There will be alot of people playing each weight for every class not just lights playing operatvies and heavies all play soldiers.

why do people think a light is always gonna be a operative? light medics and engies can be very effective, zipping around and healing/planting mines all over the place. Besides the game hasn't even been released, we dont know how exactly lights and heavies are gonna playout.

operative imo is light/medium going on light
soldier.. heavy is most suited for the task but i think at least in the beginning there's gonna be a whole lot more of mediums.
medic and engineer can be all 3, depending on what road their build is taking

Anyone who plays the Scout from TF2 will have a general idea of what it is to play a light. You are fast and agile but one mistake and you are dead. I do agree that some of the light ninja crowd has diminished, but it will return when the games comes out. People would want to be and try a commando knifer and soon realize that it isn't a viable except to the most skilled, These people will come and go quickly when it isn't a viable opinion.

Lights will be very useful to their teams.

What you need to realize that your speed is your life. Hit and run tactics are your modus operandi. You don't have the firepower or the HP for any kind of sustained firefight. Lights will not only have speed but manueverability. This combined with the SMART system gives the light far more options in how to reach objectives, teammates, enemies etc,

I could go on but this is the basic points.

Its about how you play.
