G.E.C.K

Heya guys! I have this problem for as long as I've been working with the g.e.c.k. and it's realy stupid I've never actually asked this question before. I have no idea if it's something I'm missing out or that it's just the way it is but here's the thing; I create an esp file with let's say for example a new race and let's name it 1.esp. When I'm done setting everything up ingame I save the "1.esp" to do some testing ingame. When I close the geck and reload the file everything seems to be working. However when I for example add something extra, let's say a new pair of eyes and save it as "2.esp" file will only contain the eyes, not the work from "1.esp". Which is kind of stupid, which would mean that each time I add something or change something to it I have to actually work from scratch again, because the loaded "1.esp" data doesnt seems to be saved into the "2.esp" file. It only saves the files which are marked by a * [little star dot...thingie]. Which are the things that you changed. So I was wondering if there's a way to somehow "mark" the loaded esp data? So I can just keep on loading and saving an esp and adding stuff? Or is this just the way it is???

Why not duplicate "1.esp" That would in turn give it that * then you can just edit 1.esp then save it as 2.esp. I'm not well versed in G.E.C.K. either, rather new, but in theory that should work, you just need to basically toggle *.

When you load up your esp in the geck, click the 'Set as Active File' button to make your esp the active one (the one currently being edited) so you save to that one.

This makes a ton of more sense then what I said. Now I have that bit of info to publish updates. Thank you! :)

I see! It works now guys! THanks! I knew there was a solution to this problem! Now I'm just wondering why I never asked this question before. I've been using the geck since it was still called "the construction set" for Morrowind. :spotted owl:
