Benny: Alright Courier, you shoulda taken your chance and got outta Vegas. Now your kid has to pay.

Courier: [censored] if I care, you won't be able to kill him/her.

Child: WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT DAD/MOM

Benny: Alright kid *Shoots the child in the head*

Child: *Stares Blankly at Benny* Well?

Courier: Told ya.

Benny: DAMN YOU ESRB!!!!!!!

lol +1 because murder is only ok if the person is over some arbitrary age and as always six is way worse then murder

Wouldn't mind adopting a kid.
Find a kid, his mom and dad have been killed.
You take him with you.
At one of the settlements you can leave him in the care of two men, brothers.
The child will always remember you as the one who saved it and upon your return you can play tag with him.
Nothing binds you down with this.

Or having a flirt with a bartender if you're female.
Everytime you go there you play that back and forward fling with each other.
Might end up in the sack with him.
But nothing that truly binds you down either.
No marriage or "boyfriend" or anything.

Depends on how it's done.
But a la Fable?
No thanks.

I think it'd be ok if the spouse could be a companion or something or left at home and you don't have to do anything with them. Maybe you just have to have food at the house if in hardcoe mode we have to feed our companions. Maybe a kid if it just walks around like simms kid in megaton or something. Nothing too in depth.

A whole family, as such? Probably not. It'd be fine if there was a girlfriend of sort - sorta like in Dragon Age or Mass Effect, or possibly someone you could get engaged to or have a one-time experience with (a la Mrs Bishop or her daughter) but not bring with you - though they'd be mentioned in the ending ("The Courier married (Insert Name Here)"/"(Insert Name Here) gave birth to a child who went on to become the most famous gambler in the history of New Vegas"), obviosuly. A child (or more than one), though, would probably be something that is best left to only being mentioned in the ending.

How about this? Evil character = tons of hardly dressed women kneeling at your throne

Neutral (what i usually play on, that or good) = Really hot wife with a suite up in vegas some where (or any place of your choosing)

Good = Amish wife and amish beard with a wagon and no energy weapons or power armor aloud

100% win!

(Scary part is, I'm almost beginning to think it'd be worth having just to see it happen...)

Haha, I got bored one day and made an evil character and tryed to kill Simm's kid, i chased him all over Megaton with a baseball bat beating his face in and he just said "Ow! That hurts!" I never did kill children in Fallout (i dont really remember wether or not you can kill them in 2) but it would be nice to have that option, and also, a problem i have, THE hokerS DONT DO ANYTHING WHEN YOU GET IN BED WITH THEM!!!!!!! So I can go around killing everybody I see but i cant enjoy a guilty pleasure or two? I see how it is..........

If so... your family needs to have some bearing other than just being a gimmick. having a family should give you some type of bonus, or more perks etc.

I feel like it would take a lot of time and work on the part of gamesas to do right and i wouldn't care for it much even if it were done well, but i definitely don't want a shoddy job like fable.

Only if I could sell them into slavery.

Serious answer: I wouldn't mind a girlfriend or wife. No kids though, they cramp my style.

I like how Bioware handles romance, hopefully Bethesda will rip them off at some point.

Just as long there is no kids, no type of upkeep (rent, allowance, ect) and its not a huge focus/impact in the game I wouldn't mind this idea.

possible benefits:

Food (cant spam)
Well rested bonus sleeping at home
companion
Weapon repairs (cant spam)
a few ammo rounds (cant spam)
Unlock new perks to learn

Family means being responsible for their safety and well being.

So, no i don't want a family in Fallout New Vegas, searching for water and food for myself, sounds like a daunting task itself considering the fact, most of us will be playing on hardcoe Mode.

-edit- Hm, daunting task... if this isnt proper English, feel free to correct me.

Fable: New Vegas?

Hmmmmm....more like Fallout 2 I'd imagine. I see a lot of posts saying how it would be a pain in the ass, that's half the point I feel, marriage isn't all fun and games, and in a RPG it shouldn't be. Also, it would be optional. I think personally, it would be awesome. And you should be able to choose if you have them follow you around as a companion or stay at home. I think if you have kids, they should have to stay home however, although, if they are really getting into this I suppose you could hire/buy a babysitter (and by buy I mean a robot, although in this game-world I suppose slavery is an option too). And there should be good and bad wives, and you can marry them independant of your karma, they just will judge you and possibly leave/try to kill you if you vary too much from their beliefs. Or even a divorce as one previous poster mentioned. It would be an interesting dynamic to explore. Mods/FO4 maybe?

I like this idea, some people are always talking about hardcoe not being difficult enough, take the above idea and the challenge is not only keeping yourself alive but the child also, the child also learn's values from you, so if your evil the child learns evil, and so on, you have to protect and feed the child and there's no dumping the child on anyone, lets see how much people like hardcoe gaming then ;-)

I wouldn't mind the ability to get hitched. as long as there is some kind of story element behind it, not like in fable where you just pick someone and they are your wife/husband.

well i hadent though about compreing it to fable but its a good compersan but still that begs the question? would you want to do it in fallout? and if you would what would you want out of it in the game play to add to the over all enjoyment?

They way i see things like this with all games is: If you don't want to do it, if you personally wouldn't enjoy it, you just wouldn't use the feature. But there are some people who would. I personally would enjoy it, but there should be a possibility (Small) of raiders or something breaking into your house while you're gone, or even while there, and killing the family.

I think if even one person mentions a feature that isn't totally stupid, it should be implemented into things as an OPTIONAL feature . I bet you could make a mod though, so it's not too bad if you can't, but still.
