Where the heck is everyone?

I imaged the very buggy nature of the release did not help. I play on pc and started playing on Feb 28th, and still the game is more buggy than OB or FO3(and I use the community patch also). Plus when Fallout 3 came out people said it was OB with guns, now NV is out and its even more of the same. All the cool stuff that wowed me back when I first played OB has become stale, things like radiant AI, physic, etc now its just the norm. So the aging nature of the gameplay/game systems combined with a less than polished release(hell the graphics are worse than FO3! no animated trees and almost nothing reflects in water, sad) don't help make this a must mod kind of game.

I'm probably going to wait a while before picking up Skyrim, if I do at all.....

I've been playing Swords, Knights, Elves, Dwarves and Mages games since I first got my Commodore 64, (Bard's Tale 1, 2 & 3)
then I played them when I picked up my Atari 1040 STE, ((FTL's "Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes back) AWESOME games) and continued playing them
when I built my first 486 DX2, (Eye of the Beholder series etc etc) so when the Fallout Franchise Came out
(Actually I got some relief from the Sword and Fantasy CRPGs before Fallout, with "Wasteland" and its sequel "Fountain of Dreams" along with "Roadwar 2000")
I was excited because it was a CRPG with Guns and not the cliché Broadsword wielding Lunk or the Fireball throwing Mage game.....

So yea, for me, that genre is getting pretty stale, although I do keep coming back to them...... Gothic 1, 2, 3 and 4.

But what I'd really like to see a sequel of, (or a genre get more notice) is Jade Empire......how cool is a CRPG with Martial Arts?
OK, well, I liked it, it was a breath of fresh air in a Genre that needs something new to do.

Its not genre for me, I love open world rpgs and there are very few made anyway, its the engine used. Skyrim will finally change underlying mechanics and will(hopfully) give me that wow experince when I first played OB.

You see I got familiar with fallout 3 in roughly the same amount of time I did with New Vegas, 2 play through's max. The random encounters in FO3, they really weren't, they were events tied to activators really. You're always gonna meet Donovan after you do Reily's Rangers and he's always going to be attacking 3 super mutants, you're always gonna meet the trader after you do big trouble in little big town and he's always gonna be going there to sell them what you chose for them to defend themselves. Whats more, they typically only occur in certain cells. And even then only in certain spots in those cells.

Fun list to see just how not random they are.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_random_encounters#Locations

Now replay the original fallouts and try to see if you can spot where the random encounters will happen and just what they will be.

i agree, i wish there was just a lot more random type stuff in all games really.

About Oblivion vs. Fallout, to me the world of Fallout beats any generic boring fantasy world. I got Oblivion after I had finished my second play through in FNV, installed a load of mods and got through the first dungeon and was already bored, never got any further than the first city, whatever it was called. Loved the first two games and I get back to them every now and then, I liked even Fallout Tactics and I'm in the middle of another play through in tough guy mode. :)
Guess I got fed up with the fantasy genre in the 80's and early 90's... I'll probably not get Skyrim or any other TES game for that matter, but if there's more Fallouts for the PC I'll get them and all the DLC and mods I can find. :)

I've been modding FO3 on-off since the beginning, but I haven't released anything for years (I've worked on many other games too). Maybe I'll pick up some of the work that has been abandoned and try to finish it and put it on Nexus...

I'm just now trying out Fallout and came here yesterday to see what goes on in the Fallout forums. I'm also surprised that there's very little activity here. There's not even 70 pages of threads in this whole forum section.

Yeah, it really did die off quickly. But there are still a few of us around that are working very hard to release some great mods, so I encourage you all to keep modding, and playing. At least until Skyrim is released. :D
