DeathClaw Slaying Stratedgy

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:18 pm

Hello thanks for viewing my Thread , now just to give a hand to people that may be pretty annoyed with DeathClaws in multiple groups and or alone.

The easiest way to deal with a single DeathClaw is to equipped a decent Shotgun of sort , my personal favourite is the Riot Shotgun , somewhat get the Deathclaws attention and wait for him/her to charge , havn't a clue how you tell the difference in gender LOL. Anyway , once they are in a close range , [HINT] : Not close enough for it to hit you , go into V.A.T.S mode and aim for either it's head or legs. With luck on your side it should go down within the first three shots of the V.A.T.S mode , otherwise you'll have to give it a good old shot out of V.A.T.S mode. It's relatively simple and helps if you have 10 Perception on your S.P.E.C.I.A.L abilities. This helping you locate it on the map easily. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps.

P.S if it's a group just walk away , repeat just walk away , unless your man enough to take them all on.

Just to play devils advocate here... Isn't this how you deal with ANY enemy?

Okay so you thought you'd make me look stupid , from my experience in playing New Vegas I don't believe humans charge at you with a gun , am I correct?

And beasts in the Wasteland arn't worth wasting powerful ammo on when you could easily take it with a 9mm or a hunting rifle?

The reason so many people seem to be having trouble with deathclaws in this game is because they don't understand how damage treshold and ammo variants work.

If you equip armor piercing or incendiary ammo by pressing 2 while you have your weapon out, killing deathclaws is a breeze.

Such ammo used with a sniper rifle and sneaking makes deathclaws (and pretty much any other enemy) a walkover.

So, why don't you just shoot the deathclaws before they run at you?

Well for one usually a ranged weapon doesn't usually do much damage and if you missed it would alert them anyway , so I'm thinking i'd rather fill it with lead and call it a day.

Legion Centrions in the last NCR mission will charge even though they have a hunting rifle just so they can use their super sledge on you, and for the people who don't charge you then you just charge them instead.

You know , some may say what I posted was a little un thought through , but that's a method , there may be more , but that's one I choose to use and I chose to share , Capishe?

durrr.... wha?

I dunno.. a couple headshots with an anti-materiel rifle and the deathclaw goes down.. I havent even got the Gobi rifle yet.. and I understand its even better..

Seems to me that letting a fast, 10 foot tall, beast that can kill you in 2-3 hits get close enough that a shotgun can do its work .. rather than pegging it off from afar is maybe a bit bass ackwards..

One could also use the tactic i like which is a sneaky character and a .44 magnum with a scope. Granted if you miss at the ranges you have to be to make the effective head shot/kill shot you might want a shot gun any way. I have spanked them with both a sinper .308 and the .44 magnum, it really is a for me of how many i will need to kill. If there is 2 close together i would prefer to snipe one at a longer range giving me some breathing room for the second one which may be charging my position on the death of its buddy. If it is just one i am inclined to take a risk and sneak closer, into the effective range of the .44 as the primers for them are more common than the .308 primers.

I would like to play devils advocate here anyway and say that it really does not matter what method you use to deal with a DC so long as it is effective. We all have our prefered methods. What IS COOL is that i have my method, you have yours, someone may prefer a different approach, and that the game has the design to alow for player flexibility which means we all can be individualistic about how we deal with them or any adversary for that matter.
