Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:26 pm

No logged in a few hours after psn went back up.

So you changed your password then? You should be fine. What did Sony say?

Yeah password was changed when I created a new one right after it went up, so it seems a little different than the exploit you mentioned. But since it seems different, that's what is really worrying me, a new exploit or an anomaly, who knows?

I just sent the email, very likely that it may be sometime before I hear back.

Ok cool you should be fine then. I'm not sure what that was all about. Maybe you should just give them a call to be on the safe side. When the PSN was restored, I tried signing into Metal Gear Solid 4 Online, but my Konami account was hacked. I had to register for a new one. Then I found out you only get one free character per PS3 console. Not user, but console. In order to play i'll have to buy another character for $6.99.

The irony: this is the first post in the thread with content that could start a console controversy. :P

And they've already clarified it was something that was quickly learned about and no attacks were made.

Nice fear thread.

Just to clarify, attacks were made. The clarification made by Sony is that it was just a URL exploit and no hacks were made. That's not the same as "no attacks were made," it just means there was no hacking involved. They left a door open...no need to break in.

We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.

The issue was discovered by people that actually did have their passwords changed by 3rd-parties.

Looks like if everything goes smoothly we should have the Playstation Store back up by May 24th, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is their usual day of the week for updating the Stores content; Tuesday.

And if you feel like reading it here on the forums:

Spoiler

Sony plans to bring its PlayStation Store online on Tuesday, May 24, according to a report published on Thursday.

Gamasutra said it had obtained a memo that Jack Osomo, PSN content manager for Sony, wrote to its developer partners.

In the memo, Osomo revealed that the PlayStation Store, which houses the company's demos, its downloadable content packs, and its video rental services - should be online by May 24, barring unforeseen difficulties.

For publishers, that means that they will be able to push out content that had been delayed by the PlayStation Network outage, which is in a phased process of being brought back online. The entire United States now has access to the PSN's multiplayer services, but the Store remains down - and with it gamer access to the "Welcome Back" free games and movie rentals Sony promised as compensation for the outage.

Sony has also asked users to download a mandatory firmware update that will apparently help to secure the system. That update also requires users to change their passwords. Sony took down the PlayStation Network briefly, however, after a flood of password resets flooded its servers.

Content that was originally scheduled to go live on April 26 will now be pushed on May 24, with subsequent launches of content every few days until June 3, Gamasutra reported.

"If there are concerns, we are willing to consider adjusting the release date of your content on this schedule," Osorno said, as quoted by Gamasutra. "Adjustments will be made on a case by case basis."

As of press time, Sony had neither confirmed nor denied the Gamasutra report on its PlayStation blog.

Glad to know there's some kind of plan in effect. We can expect the Welcome Back packages shortly after, I imagine.

Did I mention someone logged into my account while I was on my account? Also, if you were a hacker, wouldn't you think it would pretty funny to bring PSN after it went back up. Paranoid? Sure. But a healthy level of paranoia is a good thing.

Why anyone would trust a story on IGN is beyond me.

Reset my password the first day it was back up. Have credit information/billing address on profile. Have had no junk mail, no credit loss, no errors.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but **** does.

Both systems have flaws. And since their creation it has been debated. Let's agree that it beats the days it was sega vs nintendo. At least now we can see our error prompts in HD :foodndrink:

People didn't get their identity stolen in those days. This ISN'T about who is "better".

Yes that was kind of the point. That it is not about who is better as many posts made it a war on sony vs xbox.
