PSN Password Reset Exploited

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:17 am

Why can't you change your password?

Because while most of my friends could just change on their PS3, me and another friend need to change it through an email. I got the mail today but Sony's site is down so I can't change it

Sony took the password reset site down until they fix the exploit.

You have got to be [censored] kidding me. Sure, we got the PSN back, but if the new password change exposes our accounts (that have not yet been updated) for an outside password change.. :sadvaultboy:

I thought everyone could do it through the console?

Some people have to change it via email for one reason or another, apparently, and it's the email-verification method that the exploit was through.

Cry me a river, Sony. Now they're trying to duck responsibility for the breaches in the first place. Your network; your problem, Sony. If you can't secure peoples' information then don't collect it.

Look on the bright side - at least sony didn't release firmware that causes PS3s to overheat

oh wait

http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20127883-ps3s-shutting-themselves-off-while-playing-l-a-noire

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

Well, everyone else seems to be doing relatively fine in this "bad new world" so Sony should stop crying and take others as an example.

I have read one of the links that was given how Microsoft Hotmail got breached a few years ago. In it it said it was leaked from a 3rd party source. So while this may not be related to the Sony fiasco, how come are companies like Microsoft and Sony giving out our information to 3rd parties? How come other companies can make money off our information without our consent?

Now we see how easy it is to steal peoples identity. You don't need to hack Sony or Microsoft, just hack the lesser 3rd parties they deal with.

I just hate how Steam, Sony, Microsoft and other companies can give our information away to who ever they want without out consent.

Don't forget about Facebook. They are about as low as they get in that area. I also enjoy the amount of love sony is giving its customers btw.

I just got a weird message saying that someone else signed in on my PSN user I.D. but then I got signed back in. Is this the password exploit we're talking about or something different.

I never shared my PSN ID w/ anyone (except hackers) so I'm a bit worried. :(

I agree with the complaints, but maybe we did give our consent in those long agreement forms none of us ever read... :P

Already did and created a new password, but is this the exploit you are speaking of in your original post or is does it sound like something different?

whew! good thing I just made one and don't have to reset my password. but still, that is a little dumb of them to not have thought of that. Seriously.. good thing I still have my 360 just in case PSN gets hacked again.
