Problems with save games

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:08 pm

So has this been fixed on the steam side yet?

Apparently not cause i JUST got hit with this issue which reared it's head after a sudden CTD upon trying to fast travel...4 hrs into the game...and went searching to find this thread....after losing some hours of playing sending me almost clear back to the start of the game.

I'm angry beyond measure right now at both obsidian and steam over this fiasco and several lost hours.

yeah my experience so far is that its the quick and auto saves that dont show up when i start up a new gaming session. The only quicksave it recognizes is the last one i made before i exited the program on my VERY FIRST session. Hard saves seem to be keeping up. A pain in the butt cause with FO3 I hardly ever used hard saves except before a critical descision/encounter. I had to write a note in marker next to my computer that reminds me to hard save before exiting...lol

I find out that Documents/My games/Fallout NV folder is PERMANENTLY stuck on READ ONLY. Which means you cannot change anything, like overwrite saves and ini tweaks.

I unchecked read only and it comes back as soon as I turn my back on it. I even managed to change my ini, launch the game but it resolves to the default. :brokencomputer:

It hasn't helped.

I made this bat file, however. Place in your fallout new vegas folder and please edit it to fit your file structure where I have "EDIT ME IN BRACKETS."

cd ..cd ..cd ..cd userdatacd [EDITME]cd 22380cd remotedel *.fosdel *.inicd ..cd ..cd ..cd ..cd steamappscd commoncd fallout new vegasfalloutnv.exe

This will do all the work for you, and work each time. I'll repost it at the steam forums. edit: I'm not registered for the forum yet. Somebody else pass along my solution, please. :)

edit: oh, and if you don't know how to make .bat files. Open notepad, paste the text in from above (after correctly filling in the steam\userdata\[paste this where it says [EDITME]]), save as "whateveryouwant.bat" (not .txt!) and place it in your fallout new vegas main directory, where falloutnv.exe is located. Just double click it to automatically clean out the remote saves and run the game.

edit3: This should, also, fix any issues with archive invalidation invalidated provided that you make your .ini changes after cleaning out the remote folder at least once.

this worked for me, with saves, archive invalidation, and ini changes thanks

First, I can't play at the midnight release because Steam prevents me, then when I finally play for 5 hours today, I lose my auto and quicksaves aka MY ONLY SAVES. IS THIS A !@#$ING JOKE?! WHY THE !@#$ IS STEAM EVEN INVOLVED IN THIS GAME?
So. Is there any ways I can get my 5 hours worth of saves back or am I screwed? If these saves are gone I will not be buying any game made by Bethseda or Steam again. I don't know about you guys, but after paying 50 bucks for a game I do not appreciate losing hours of time on top of that. !@#$ing insulting.

Regular saves work fine but the numbering scheme can mess itself up.

Mine look like:

12
11
17
16
15

Fortunately the hours played updates properly.
